Drove an 08

I briefly drove an 08 last night. I'm sure other's have already posted their thoughts from brief excursions behind the wheel, but thought I'd give a thought or two.

The car is fast. The last Viper I drove was a Gen II RT/10. This was so much faster it's hard to compare. I remember at the time I drove the RT/10 I thought that my mildly modded C5 Z06 felt faster. This SRT vert felt faster than the same Z06 after I threw in a 422 ci stroker that went 125-127mph through the traps.

It is not as fast as my Ford GT, which is a bit over 600 rwhp. I think that you can look for trap speeds in the 130mph range. This is just conjecture of course, but between seat of the pants and just comparing it to my last two cars, I'd say that's a decent ball park figure. It's always hard to gauge though when you go from silky smooth FI to a comparatively violent n/a V-10. Grip on the street was relatively good, though it still felt like it would step out in a hurry if you really put it to it at low speed. Brakes were excellent and beyond the obvious stopping power, pedal feel was very good.

Definitely felt like it would make a good track car. Any word on when they will finally hit the streets?

GT is good. It's the polar opposite of the Viper. The similarities between the two pretty much began and end at the word "fast". They feel wildly different from behind the wheel.

As for the sound, it's hard to say. I said to the person who let me drive it that I thought it wasn't that loud, but my cars always have aftermarket exhaust. It's definitely quieter than a C6Z06. It sounded pretty much like other SRTs I've heard from a tone standpoint, though that's the first time I've heard it from inside the cabin. Definitely had that v-10 rumble.
