Alright; I don't know what the deal is, but I'm CONSTANTLY being provoked and challenged whenever I drive the SRT. I posted a thread a little while back about getting into it with an SL55 and a Porsche GT. Fine, whatever.
Now, this last Tuesday, I get on the 10 freeway, minding my own business, I do a few sharp cuts to merge in and next thing I know, I see what looked like a black Ferrari trying to catch up to me. I kept watching him in my rear view and he was killing himself to get up behind me - all the while with his right turn flasher blinking regardless of whether he was moving to the right or the left.
So he gets in behind me, I drop it into third and slice between the car in front of me and the one next to me. I look back and he's stuck - again. So at this time, I have no traffic ahead of me and I have about 2.5 to 3 miles left for some gamesmanship before having to get into the exit lane. I wait until he gets free and starts coming up on me; when he got close, I threw it into third and I believe that I began to pull away. We hit a little patch of traffic and when we cut through it, I started to pull away again before coming up on some more traffic at which time I had to bob and weave my way into the exit lane. At this point he pulls up behind me for a few seconds and then shoots past me being "chased" by a 300zx (what the 300zx was thinking, I’ll never know).
Funny thing is that last night I caught a documentary on the National Geographic channel about the Ferrari factory and I recognized the forgoing car as a 599.
Then, today, literally two minutes after filling it up, I'm driving home on the 10 (about 7:15 pm - in case anyone saw) and I pass this new Porsche turbo. It wasn't long before he started up with me and you know I can't help myself. I passed him at first then watched him as he contemplated his move before punching it into the number 2 and then the number 3 lane to pass me. Of course I dropped in behind him and gave chase. Then, before I know it, we had an M5 in the mix too! Unfortunately there was too much traffic to really find out what these cars can do (thank god) but I got a taste of the new turbo and, although it's fast, I think the SRT can definitely take it. The M5 I couldn't tell. I have to say, however, it's kinda hard to do these things with the SRT because I usually have the top down and the noise and wind is really distracting; but man is it exhilarating (provided that I don’t wreck or get pulled over)!
So what the hell is it with this car? I’ve had my yellow Z06 for three years and have been involved in like 4 such occurrences; I've had the red SRT for 2 months and it's like all the time. People are always trying to test my mettle all while I'm trying to figure out how much gas mileage I can get out of the thing. It's no wonder I've been getting 12 mpg on the freeway.
By the way, I love the fact that I can post this kind of stuff here. I tried it once on CorvetteForum.com and I not only got shunned by the majority of the memebers, I had my thread blocked. It’s nice to know that the Alley offers a sissy-free zone!
You're driving an SRT Viper not a banged up civic, where else do you think all the attention comes from? If you don't want to race any just mind your own P's and Q's and let them make a fool of themselfs. It's just beyond amazing how hot headed people get to race when the see cars like this, or Lambo ect.

I think that the Viper is far rarer than a Ferrari or even a Lambo. I see those all the time but never any Vipers. As for Porsches, they're a dime a dozen and they all look alike to me.
With that I have to say that I went to DC Performance today and I saw some of the most beautiful GTSes that I've ever seen. That's the American Ferrari as far as I'm concerned - I hate to say it but I think that it's better looking than the SRT. But the SRT can go topless so decisions, decisions.
Unless your car has some significant mods, if in fact that was a 599 then the driver wasn't all the way in it. A stock 599 is a significantly faster car than a stock or mildly modded SRT.

My car's bone stock and the Ferrari didn't seem like it was that fast. I'm also pretty sure that it was a 599 from the way the front and the back lights looked; although I'm not 100% certain that I was pulling away from him (had to keep my eyes forward most of the time to keep from getting into trouble), it certainly seemed like I was. One things for sure though, the guy definately couldn't drive his way out of a urine-soaked paper bag - he kept getting stuck behind cars and was trying to use his signals; but how hard is it to floor a car once it's out in the open? And from all the noise it was making, it sure sounded like he was trying.
My first Viper was an '06 blue/silver SRT that I bought in December '06. When I bought the car, I was sure that all this GTS hype was a bit overstated and delusional. This past week I bought a 2000 gray/silver GTS to add to the collection. From the time my son and I left the parking lot, of the dealer I bought it from, I was amazed at how much attention the car received. Tonight, a few Viper friends (Rick SRT and Disturbed) and I went to Old Town Kissimmee and had our Vipers on display among many other cars. I chose to take the GTS tonight and the attention this car received was amazing. Don't get me wrong, I still love the SRT. Rick's convertible is absolutely stunning from some angles and I love my blue/silver coupe. However, there is a look that the GTS has from some angles and there isn't another car in the world like it; simply outrageous. I have never seen a picture capture it, either. I think the reason you get attacked so often with your Viper is because its appearance and reputation have a degree of arrogance (that we all love) that hits a nerve in other men and they don't like it one bit. You will either have to come to terms with it and even enjoy it or close your eyes every time you take it for a drive.

A Yellow ZO6 owner talked a lot of shit last night. He said his nitrous set-up would blow me away. I proceeded to whip out a small roll of 100's and asked him if we can go right now. He gets upset and says he friend will race me and starts to walk away from us and his car. I yelled excuse me what is your name and then asked him to check out the back of my new Viper shirt. He then did the George Bush war walk and took off for 30 minutes.

Racing a Honda is like racing in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded.

The GTS has that vintage Ferrari-type sports car appeal; its stance and its lines are truly elegant and yet it's matched to raw power and performance (well 400 hp used to be raw power up until last year, now everyone and their grandmother has it - I weep for my Z06). I always wanted a GTS and didn't care too much for the way the SRT looked - particularly since it was a convertable - what race car comes in a convertable? However, now that I have an STR, I love the fact that it's a convertable - never had one before. Nevertheless, I'm still infatuated with the looks of the GTS, specially the older versions with the rear spoiler and the chrome gas cap up high - man that's a good looking car! The jury's still out on the new GTS - haven't really seen those yet.
As for the douches who keep wanting to race me, I enjoy it - always liked that sort of thing; used to have a Camaro in a world of Mustang GTs and so I had to deal with that all day long. They just want to see what all the fuss is about with the Viper since there's so few of them around - and even fewer with hot-headed owners who are willing to show them what the fuss is about (at least around here). The only problem is I keep running out of gas every 5 minutes.
Rick, I wish I had known that the vette weakling was talking such shit last night. We know that your Viper would have effeminated him (as if by appearance alone, it hadn't - ha ha) in a showdown. I would have responded to the boasting retard, by stating, "What do you know about power? Can you even bench press 100 pounds?". For those who do not know what Rick's shirt said; "God created Vipers so that corvette owners could have heroes". At most, his nitrous vette was pushing 500hp at the crank. Where was he going to find the other 500hp he would need to hang with the Rickster?

I saw a picture of a Ferrari 612 and I think that's what was chasing me. It looks very similar to a 599, but it has a V-8 with 435 lb of torque and 533 hp. Which explains why it didn't seem so fast.
I recently was riding with a friend on our way to a party in his SRT10 and we came across a new 430 spyder on an empty strip of highway. The guy driving didnt seem overly intent on racing we got a run in from 60-95 or so im guessing and the SRT seemed to pull slightly. My friends srt is bone stock down to the filters, 430 had the paddle shifters or at least seemed to. Anyone gotten a good race with one of these as we certainly did not. After the first one the guy kinda waved and said "you guys win" and exited off. God those ferraris sound awesome though
