Alright; I've had my SRT-10 for 2 months now and I'm officially getting 12 mpg. I drive 30 miles round trip to my office and back and most of it is on the freeway. I've been trying to see how much I can ge out of it, so I've been running it in 6th at or near 80mph at or about 1500 rpm and I still can't get more than 12 mpg.
The car is stock and it passed CA smog yesterday, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it. What's weird is that I get 80 to 85 miles up to the first quarter tank mark; then at half tank I'm at 110 or 115 miles; and by the time the light goes on I've driven 185 - maybe. WHAT THE HELL It's like the damn thing is in love with every gas station and it wants to stop in and say hello each time we're near one. My Z06 is actually my economy car now.
I met a guy who's in Texas (using 93 octane) and he tells me he's been getting 20 mpg on the highway and about 15 mpg in the city with his Mamba SRT. That sounds INSANE!! If I could get 20 mpg out of mine, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night out of joy.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS IS NORAMAL AND IF NOT, HOW I CAN FIX IT?
I should clarify, I really don't drive too much on the highway at all. So I pretty much deserve my 12mpg.
Yeah; but are you driving it the way you like - or like a great grandmother, like I have been? Plus my 12 mpg is mostly highway. So now I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my car.
My Viper is S Charged and I get about 17 mpg on the highway. Around town- ten or below- especially if my foot gets heavy. Like Hamrhead loving every mile.

Well I don't thrash on it constantly, but I do have fun with it.
Today probably didn't help as I installed my DC Performance PCM, and you just know I had to see if it helped...
(It did!)
PS - Most Great Grandmother's I've encountered don't do 80 on the highway.
My mileage pretty much sucks too but I knew that was going to be the case. I don't even bother to try to figure out the MPG. Not much point in it. Fortunately, I do most of my running around in my 4 cyl. beater car which gets good mileage. That stops me from having to fill up very often in the Viper.
Not sure how you are figuring your mileage, but it could be :
1. Improper venting and the tank is never actually getting completely full.
2. It is running overly rich.
I would take it in to the Dealer you bought it from, as Highway mileage in 6th gear is usually quite good -----70 - 75 mph in 6th usually returns 17-23 mpg.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Problem is I got it over the internet and they delivered it to me - I'd never driven one before - talk about an impulse buy (or lease, in my case)! Since it passed the CA smog test the other day, I figure it's not running rich, although I'm taking your advice and will be taking it to the dealer real soon - it's still under warranty.
Other than the gas mileage, I wouldn't change a thing about it - it was a great impulse buy (or lease, in my case).
smog test may not pick it up once cats are hot as cats will burn the excess fuel.
The stupid thing about it is - with a custom tune you can get 28mpg even on modified engines, even on twin turbo'd and supercharged ones. Mind you that is aftermarket ECU and low impedence injectors that allow very precise metering.
The problem is likely to be as Bill said - it runs rich even at cruise. .. common problem
12mpg at highway cruising (not heavy footing) is not efficient - even the SRT10 Ram that weighs 5200lbs and runs 4.1 gears can get 16 mpg+
you are in Santa Moncia - you might like to check at Dan at DC Performance - he can reflash the ECU I believe and you will pick up power and economy
