Ok, I searched but I wasnt really able to find a good comparasion. In 08, will the body style of the viper change from 2006? Will there be a coupe and a convertible? I noticed in a picture that the hood is different, will that be the only cosmetic change? The horsepower is going from 500 to 600 correct? How much torque are the 08's going to have, 600? If you pre-order one, when will you be able to get it, I hear September? Thanks, for any information.
560 ft/lbs. The 600 hp is from Dodge, but dyno runs with the engine have averaged 625. They are being conservative. There will be a coupe and a 'vert. They will have a stronger drive train, a track oil pick up, quaffe type rear end and throttle by wire. September if your order is in already, later probably if you put it in now.

Thanks Sundiego! So basically, for appearance the hood is the only difference? When I looked on the dodge website that you linked, I didnt see the different colors available. Does anyone have a link to the different available colors? Thanks.
Yes, the hood is the only cosmetic difference other than wheels. (and yes, the new hood will bolt to an 06)
The "new" engine shares the same block as the 06 with minor changes (+1mm Overbore and VVT component bosses), but has different heads, manifolds, and EMS.
The clutch is a new twin disk, the trans is the new TR-6060 (new gen T-56) and the diff is the same, but with a new carrier inside.
The majority of the 2008 parts can bolt right into an 06, so mix/match is easily possible to build your ideal car. And of course, the aftermarket has parts that blow the 08 parts out of the water, so its a moot point anyway if you are planning big power in the future.
Pick up an 06 unless you plan on keeping the car BONE STOCK. Ultimate capability of either car will be the same otherwise, and the 06 you can have NOW. For the 20K difference, you could easily make a 800+ HP 06.

For a straight line and no warranty , great.
The oil pick up, quaffe type rear end and extra 100+ hp horsepower are very attractive if you go around corners. The new car is not good news for tuner revenue for the next couple years.

As I put up in my previous post, many of the 08 parts will bolt to the 06 cars with minor mods. I am currently already underway adapting the 2008 oil system in its entirety for use in the 03-06 cars. It wont be too crazy price wise, not much more than a Comp Coupe pan itself, but 10x the number of parts, and 10x better at that.
I am also in agreement that the 08 will be a tuner nightmare for quite a while, which is why I recomend the 2008 only if you are staying bone stock- if you arent, 03-06 is the way to go. The aftermarket will make it run circles around the 08 for the price difference, and most of the parts that the 08 has that are really nice are either surpassed already by the aftermarket, or adaptable anyway.
