Is there a way for DC to change the exhaust sound?

Not a mechanic or an engine builder.

However, I will say I'm willing to bet that the majority of Viper owners would love a different sound of the car.

Quite possibly above and beyond many other changes.

From what I've read, the motor has an 'even firing order' which creates this unique / odd sound.
Sounding like two 5 cylinders battling with each other as opposed to 10 cylinders.
If I'm wrong, my apologies.

My question ??
Why can't these engineers change the firing order and have this car sounding something like a ferrari, porsche carrera, lambo, or hell even something similar to the v8 vettes and shelbys.

I'm not sure if this V10 has to leave the firing order as it is, or if it can be changed which would change the sound.

If so, DOOOOOOO IT !!!!!!!!!
If not, I'd be curious to know why that is.

If it CAN be done, that is the FIRST thing they should do and if any of the DC guys actually read this stuff, that would GUARANTEE a large increase in sales...
That and the HP increase..

Simply put, you don't like the way the Viper sounds? It's sort of like a Cure All for me.

Might have something to do with it being a 90 degree crank in a 90 degree block vs. 90 degree and 180 degree cranks in 72 degree blocks.

It has more to do with government regulations than anything else. All cars stock sound mediocre at best. I didn't think the 06 Viper sounded too bad.

Sound is pretty subjective.
What sounds great to some folks sounds weak or strange or too loud to others.
My guess is that DC could change the sound and it would still not please most folks because everyone has a different idea about what a sports car should sound like.

Personally, I really like the sound of a V-10. It is pretty unique (very different than a big block V8.)

I agree and the Vipers sound is definitely different, but it sounds so good. I wouldnt mind if it sounded similar to that of the Gallardos V10.

I believe the reason it doesn't sound like a gallardo (or a giant F1 engine) is due to this even firing order business.

Why have another "V-8" sounding car when you have the V-10?

I got home real late a few weeks back. Shut the car off and climbed out. Then took notice to just how quiet it really is at 1am in the morning.

Then waaay out in the distance I hear it - The V10 at WOT. I just stood there in the driveway and listened as it got closer and closer. A couple of seconds later my Bud shows up in his '04 - just out for a cruise. I hopped in and for the next hour or so he attempted to prove to me that his Viper was faster than mine!

Anyone ever hear the Viper Tomahawk (Motorcycle)? I have. Sounded INCREDIBLE. Unreal. Like no Viper I have ever heard, and I've heard them all. Not sure why it sounded so different than a Viper, being it is the same motor. I believe it has a unique exhaust manifold that comes into one pipe out the rear (Twin tips but one pipe). Honestly, this thing sounded better/meaner than an open header 426 Hemi. Incredibly loud and mean.

P.S. - Here's the only example I could find. Trust me, the guy is just touching the throttle (Couple thousand RMP?) and the sound/loudness on the video are much tamer than hearing it live. Like hearing a top fuel car live vs. TV. No comparison.

Turn your volume waaaay up:

For the mechincs, / speed builders out there...
Is there a way to change the firing order ?
This motor is supposedly different in several ways from what I read.

So if the firing order is the reason for the 'odd' sound, why not change it?

Imagine a Viper sounding like a Carrera GT, Lambo, Ferrari etc????
Fuuuuuuuuuuck...

V8's as an example don't all sound the same...
Christ, if I hear a car coming, without looking, most times I can tell which car it is, or at the very least what make it is.

That being said, I would love the engineers to address this, if it's possible.

Not good enough, were going to need a few vids of you guys running head to head first, then from a dead stop to see who comes out on top.

Well I know he's crazy enough to do it, but I'm not sure I am? At least not on the street.

It's just a matter of time before we end up at the strip together. Which basically means we'll do whatever we can to run side by side.
