Does anyone know what '04 vipers are going for at auction these days. I am trying to sell my leased car but the leasing company won't let me. They want me to pay the sales tax and then I can sell it. I had a dealer call for their payoff and they said if the cars are selling for more at auction then the payoff, they must pay the higher amount.
Baloney on what they are telling you. The Auctions have nothing to do with your payoff, it is what a Dealer will pay and if a Dealer buys it you will not have to pay taxes either. Going for the low 40s is also hogwash for quality cars, as the market is flooded with a glut of ex Skip Barber cars and SRT Driving Experience cars and they are dragging down the market somewhat , but very few quality Viper Dealers get their cars from the Auctions.
The mileage on the car is important, the condition is important, but frankly what you are looking for is nothing more than a Dealer who will pay off the lease for you , or get somewhat close , so you can go on your merry way without paying taxes.
Hang in there and check around or if you have a buyer who wants your car for the buyout, you should be able to find a Dealer nearby who will do the purchase and handle the paperwork for 500-1000.

Best of luck!
Bill,
Usually this is right, but the lease I got from you was with US Bank (I hope you don't use them anymore) and they will only sell "me" the car at the residual value and make me pay the sales tax. I had a dealer call them to buy the car and they said they would sell them the car at the auction price (this is why I am asking for this infor). He said he had never heard of this before. I have a buyer for my car but because of this issue with the leasing company we can't complete the deal. Have you ever had this issue before?
forgive me if I wrong but I thought that when you lease a car that you pay the sales tax on the full amount of the car. so woulden't the tax already be paid?
If you want me to find you one let me know, I'm working for Highline Imports in New Jersey...Not even trying to bullshit you for the business, they are good people.
