I broke my 2004 SRT-10 Viper with only 16,500 miles. It needs a new transmission, a new rear-end and a new steering rack, coming to a total of nearly $8,000.00. My problem is that the Dodge dealership voided my warranty and put in their database that I was racing (but I wasn't) and now I can't get my car fixed without paying the $8,000.00. My question is... since the Dodge Viper is advertised as a "street legal race car" shouldn't they be obligated to stand behind their product? Whether I was racing or not, they advertise that the Viper has 500+ HP and 535 ft lps of torque, but if you can't use it without it breaking, what's the point? Should I raise all kinds of Hell with Dodge Corp. about them fixing it under warranty? What would ya'll do? Please help me!
Even if you were racing, who cares. The warranty is a warranty.
Push and then push some more. There are plenty of people who blew engines on the track and they received a full rebuild courtesy of Dodge.
Also, how do they know you were racing? Were they there?
Someone supposedly told them that someone saw a black viper racing from their porch. By the way, I was in an industrial area with no houses! Even if I was ratted out, how would they have known it was me and what dealership I would go to for repair? They just don't want to fix it under warranty. Should I tell them to put it back together and take it to another Dodge dealership? Is this stuff really "flagged" in their system or are they full of it?
Anyone remember that story about some guy that broke a bunch of rear ends while drag racing his SRT, and then he got a huge settlement from Dodge because the car was a "lemon"? It reminds me of Randy's situation.

No, what happened? Was this a court case? If so do you know what it was listed as so I can look it up?
I understand insurance not covering while you on a track, but warranty should not come into play - it should be covered on or off the track - raise hell - send a registered letter to Dodge. I do not remember anything in my warranty book about "racing".

Total BS on the warranty issue. Every viper races at one point or another.
Even the VCA has sanctioned track events that most Vipers attend.
The only way they can void the warranty is if your car is modified and the modification (if you have more HP in this case) is the direct cause of the failures.
If your engine is completely stock, there's no way they can void it.

How did the car manage to break the transmission, rear end, and steering rack all at the same time?
1-800-992-1997 Start with them trust me.
I'm a Ford service advisor, first step is to let "Dodge" aware of your issue. Not Joe Blow Dodge dealer. Like all corp, you complain you should get some results.
Something doesn't sound right.... usually it takes a regional person to flag the car and not just a dealer. Dodge is very good to Viper owners - however - managing to break the tranny, the rack and the diff is a little disconcerting and could certainly be denied under "abuse"
Zipping around a road course and doing it reasonable well isn't "abuse" but speed shifting, throwing sticker tired on the back and and lunching the diff, etc, and the RACK??? what's up with that?

So, if he was running drag slicks and he dumped the clutch at 5K RPM's, the warranty would cover it........

It was a court case. I will search for the article because I can't remember what the exact outcome was. I believe TwinTurbo3150 is pretty accurate saying that the guy got about $250,000. I'll post it up if I can find it.
