This morning the check engine light came on. There is nothing going on that I can tell, I checked all the fluid levels and did a cursory look under the hood.
So I was just wondering what the normal culprits were? I think autozone will let you leave a credit card and grab the OBDII.
So next question, where do you plug the OBDII diagnostic in?
most likely an 02 sensor error reading or something dumb like that. I had a Lexus that was notorious for throwing the CEL whenever I got gas and the guy didnt close the cap tightly. Some cars are that sensitive with all the electronics today. Did you recently get fuel. It didnt alway happen that moment either, you sometimes would drive for 20 min. before it threw the light. And I hear most will check the code for you free. It hooks up under the dash, not positive on the srt but usually driver side under the dash. You should see an ODB2 port to plug the scanner in. Turn the car on and bingo, theres the code. it will give you a code or multiple if more then one is logged like P0240, P0184 etc... you can search online for the codes meaning or post here and someone will tell you what it is. I have a list on the codes at home. It is a cheap tool to own and a great one to invest in. Most will allow you to clear the codes as well. That is what you want. otherwise youll pay the dealer for some really dumb shit. Imagine what my Lexus dealer would have charged me to tighten my gas cap. ANYTHING WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO MUCH, and they aint doin' shit for free!!!
I'll post the cause when I figure it out. I'm thinking 02 sensor, as the car runs a little rich after the Arrow rebuild (it really pops and burbles on the downshift).
also sometimes if you are hauling ass at full throttle then let off quick it will load up with fuel and the o2 sensors will pick up a high reading and set off the light. You can get the code with out a diagnostic tool..I think you cycle the ingnition 3 times and finish with the key in the on positions - then the code pops up where the odometer is. I've done it a few times but can't remember the exact sequence of the steps..do a search at viper club you'll find it.
Just as a follow up, a night in the garage cured the check engine light. No harm, no foul.
doc, thats doesnt make sense brother. The light came on because something set it off. Either minor, or major something triggered the light. put a scan tool up to the obd2 port and read the code/codes. Even if the light is off the codes will still show up on the reader.
I had periodic check engine lights that would go away on their own (2005, Red if it matters). I took it in to my dealer and the Viper Tech (one of the best I've run into) did not find any stored codes.
