Im considering changing gears and was looking at going with 3.55. Does it make 6th gear more usable? What about wheelspin? Was also wondering if a 3.33 makes much difference.
I had the 3.55 installed on my 2006 coupe. Really like the gear. The viper is quicker.
6th gear is more usable but more of a dramatic change in 2-5. 2nd gear is stronger 3rd gear is amazing. You will have to shift out 1st gear at a little lower speed. Its like adding another shift (On hgy Viper is like a sling shot).
I had to get rid of the run flats even before the gear change. I have the Pirelli tires and when the tires are cold I experienced some spin but very little wheel hop. I love the gear. I am going to use it with my Paxton that is being installed at DLM.
Hope you have a better tire than the run flat. If you still have run flat consider the new PS2 that will be out the end of this month in the stock sizes(rear 345/30/19).
BTW make sure, if you make a gear change, to get it done by a good Viper mechanic. If not done correctly you will have a bunch of problems. Got mine done a dealership that warranty their work. Their is a lot of work in changing out a gear. It cost me 860.00 for the install. Got my gear package from parts rack.

yup...I love mine too. I added the short throw, light weight fly wheel and diamondback rims and non-run flats and I hook better and it is a bunch more fun to drive.

With a Paxton the largest street gear you should have is a 3.33. You will find that Doug at DLM will agree with me on this. I think you will eventually go to this gear. After adding even more power with the Paxton and going to 15 lbs of boost I found even the 3.33 to be too much. For peace of mind I added a quaiffe which is what the boys at DC should have installed to start with
Thanks for the advice. I did speak with Sean at Roe Racing earlier today and he said that they are trying to get the new S/C out by Easter. I may be doing that, so I might have to consider the 3.33.

I am sure you guys know alot more about this than me, but I have done a lot of gear changes in non viper cars and a lot depends on HP and use of vehicle. I only have a few thousand on my VIP but can tell with the stock HP I might be able run a 3.55 for quickness, but I might sacrafice another shift in the quarter mile run. On the other hand with a SC or TT I would think the 3.33 down to the stock would give best power without excess wheel spin. I agree you might get a better 6th, but that would only be of use on a road course. Like I say I am pretty new and am not to this point in mods yet with this car, but I have been following this topic and trying to make sense of it. My other cars are running 9 inch fords and 12 bolt chevys so the hook up part of it is probably different than the IRS. I don't know about you guys, but I already have plenty of wheel spin (I know get rid of run flats) and have always had to go to taller gears not shorter gears as HP increases to get more rubber on the pavement.
I may be way off base, but just throwing out some thoughts.
I was also going to have 3.55's installed now I'll go with the 3.33's. thanks
3.33s are out of production (last I heard) ... nowhere to be found ... I have a set of race-prep polished 3.45s with only 4K miles (like new) available cheap (not 3.33s, but better than 3.55s) ...

Doug Levin told me yesterday he has them, or can get them.

Yes, a while back I heard that he had something like the last 10 sets to be found -- but I think he was hanging on to them as a bonus option for SC customers ($$$)

good luck
If I remember correctly he said they were starting to produce them again recently
