As the topic states. I'm working on putting together a 9 second 03 vert. I've worked out most of the motor specifics, but I'm curious what is going to break on me at the track. I've looked at the Mark Williams shafts:
What else will I need in the back half of the car to keep things from breaking? I'd prefer to do it right the first time and not have to go back and fix stuff after the fact. I know quite a few guys have been in this territory, so any help would be appreciated.

I assume I'll need a new ring gear, suggestions? When I do this I'm going to spreadsheet everything so I can document exactly what everything cost (dangerous I know). From reading the motons upgrade seems to be the deal. That runs around 3500 I think. I want to start amassing the things I need over the next two months. Just want to get the best of everything as I only plan on doing this once.
It's hard to say. It will be a new type of power adder for a Gen 3. We don't really know what it will do. I'm going to just say high 9's at this point.
If all you want is 9's, you don't need a quaife or a mark williams rear. just get the unitrax 'titanium' half-shafts (or whatever they call them) and you're fine. plenty of people have done it on the stock rear end w/ unitrax.
if you want deep 9's or 8's that will keep running reliably, then you need more.
I guess everything is cost relative. If it's going to cost me 2k to do an upgrade vs 4k to make it bullet proof, I'd rather go bullet proof. If it were a 15k dollar car, eh, probably not.
I'm just bias due to my dad's old business. Most people would break two to three 8 3/4 rearends before getting a dana 60. Had they just gone there the first time and spent a little more money, it would have saved a lot of time. I know my luck as well, if it can break, it will.

quaife isn't $1,800 more like 3,000-3,500 depending where you get it
It sounds like I'm going to spend about 12k to make it track ready. With half shafts, tranny, rearend, roll bar, belts etc. I'm not sure it is worth that to hit the track less than a handfull of times. I think I may just put a motons on it and call it a day. Man, so many decisions.

Hey I was at Proline the other day and will be going back tomorrow. Let me know if I can help ya bro.
I found a place here in town that does Cryo/Rem VERY inexpensively....along with Powdercoating. If I can bring stuff over or something let me know. I have an extra front cover, oil gear etc...
