Is removing the plastic cover around the controls and gauges as simple as removing the 6 screws in the photo? Are there any other clips, foam, etc holding this piece in?
I want to make sure I don't crack, scratch or break something when I upgrade my radio tomorrow.
Also, does the start button or any other button/control come off with the cover?

The cover comes off alone. Everything else stays intact.
Uh, no it doesnt.
The A/C controls, Start switch and vents are screwed to the cover, the radio is part of the dash.
The panel around the shifter should be taken off first however, it covers a 7th screw all the way at the bottom.
the lower part is held on with clips. Lift it up, make sure you dont let it scratch the front panel, then disconnect the window switch and Power outlet (outlet must be UP) Unscrew the shift knob, and it all comes out. Then, the front panel can be unscrewed/unplugged/wiggled out.
Lastly, the passenger side of the dash has to be popped out to access and clear the right side when pulling the radio out.

Thanks for clarifying that and providing the detailed instructions. Sounds like I would have been screwed if I tried to force that panel off without removing the lower part too.

Spot on. I just installed the IPOD adapter in the center console. took about 30 minutes. The biggest hassel was locating the "box" behind the head unit.

I upgraded the radio as well, with the RB1 that I purchased from Final GTS, You might want to think about doing the short shifter as well since you have the dash apart. Thats what I did

My RB1 arrived today, but I'm going to head over to the dealer to pick up an IPOD adapter tomorrow and install them together. I guess I'll locate the IPOD in the glove compartment.
Seems like it would be easier to put it there.
Do you have a photo of the short shifter install with the RB1?

Amazing setup. The short-shifter looks great. Where did you get it?
I'm having some trouble figuring out which IPOD adapter to get. I've called the parts department at two Dodge dealers and they both have told me that they don't show any details in the adapter specs about a Viper and they don't think it will work. They continue to say this even though I've said that I have an RB-1 and that it obviously works because others are installing it with the IPOD adapter.
Does anyone know the correct IPOD adapter part number?

Sounds easy, but I couldn't figure out how to lift up the lower part. Is there a trick to doing it?

grab it through the shifter boot, and start with the driver side, back corner. it "pops" up.
I recomend putting masking tape on the front panel above where the panels contact, just in case it pops up quickly and slides against the front... scratches suck.
part # 82209616AC while center console is off, just wire around shifter and install in console much better location than glove box. left message for you 06 blue viper today sorry i missed your call. B

Thanks again. I'm midway through this now. Screws removed, top panel protected with masking tape, lower panel popped off, but I'm stuck on the shift knob.
I thought the shift knob would just unscrew using a wrench, but it doesn't budge. Is there a trick to removing the shift knob?

Two wrenches, one on the nut, one on the shift knob wrench flats. arrange it so you can "squeeze" the two wrenches in your hand to pop the nut loose. once the nut it off, it just unscrews.
If its your first time, removing the 6 allen screws around the lower console panel will allow you to remove the trim ring & pop the boot up out of the way and not have to hold the lower console while doing it all.

Man, thanks again... I removed the 6 screws already, so I'll try the two wrenches.
Well tomorrow is my day for giving this a try with the swap over to the RB1.
I think I will try silversrt's way first. I believe I have a good prybar in the tool box somewhere
