Fadi you know i dont do any straight line racing but your more than welcome to come join me out at Waterford Hills Road Course and see what your car can do. When your car has to turn and accelerate at the end of straight away, along with more left and right turns than on and off the drag strip.

Another Autoweek mag. Dec., 5, '05 Double Take column

______________Viper SRT-10(coupe)________________Vette Z06

0-100kph(62mph)-------4.32-----------------------------------------4.06

490ft slalomn--------------46.8mph--------------------------------45.6mph

laterl g 200 ft skid pad----1.00g-----------------------------------0.97g

synopsis in last 2 paragraphs of article

" If this were just a drag strip match we would grudgingly give the win to the Corvette, which makes us work harder than ever for the numbers we got.
But if we were going to take one of these cars straight off the showroom floor and gor race it showroom stock, at an autocross or in the 24 hrs of Whatever, we would choose the Viper. We can't help but feel that without the stability program on the z06 we would be in big trouble all day long through the slalom.
Which leads us to the winner the new Corvette Z06"

and again i'll mention that the coupe is 70+ lbs heavier than the convertable(my car is nearly 70 lbs lighter than a stock '03 with 35 lbs being unsrpung rotating mass).

I dont deny the Z is a gr8 car its just not for me and has way to many bells, whistles and electronic nannies for me. The Viper Gen I, II, III and III.5 have always been a drivers cars. I will also mention that the Z looks way too much like the other30,000+ standard Vettes on the road(except to the trained eye, which may be a good thing for stealth), and while the performance is something special the design is just not special enough for me.

The new Viper will top the Z06 in every way... Braking, top speed, 1/4 mile, 0-60, track times, Max G's, etc... This will become abundantly clear the first time the cars are tested against one another, same day, same driver.

To deny this is, well, is denial. Isn't denial the first step to acceptance?

Yup, exactly the step most Viper owners went through when the C6 Z06 came out..

I have absolutley NO problem admiting another car is faster, at all. I had a Viper, and now I have a Z06. And if GM doesn't step up with the SS Vet, I will have another Viper in my garage.

Such a shame we have so many choices in great cars! Four yrs ago I owned a Ferrari at which time Corvettes and Vipers sucked. then I bought a Corvette at which time Ferrari's and Corvettes sucked. Now I own a viper and Ferrari's and Corvettes suck. They were all great cars!

Sold the Ferrari because some of the club members took it all too serious and it was no longer fun. The FCA does run many many track events which was great.

Sold the Vette (04) because it was just too plastic. Didn't have much pride in seeing that LS1 covered in PVC. Plus there are just so many running around that your mind's eye just ignores them. Plus the sheer numbers mean you really can't have a club event without 1000 cars vying for track time or you set an outrageously high price to keep the numbers down. However aftermarket parts are cheap and you can by big HP cheap

Time for someone to put together another showroom stock class that allows these cars to run without modifications then the truth will be revealed. Certainly there will be vipers in the gravel with spun bearings because of the poorly designed oil pickup but there will also be drivers in the gravel from avoiding the Z06 roofs lying on the track.

BMW's suck, can't afford a Porsche?

To be honest I think a C6 Zo6 will still kill a 08 viper as the Vette handles and up to now a Viper just doesn't!

the 08 viper will need the x-tra power just to be equal to the current z06 from what i can see. so what the hell do you guys think the vette ss is going to do, im guessing it will run mid to low 10's.

The 03-06 viper is close to the 06-07 Z06. With a slight win going to the Z06 is Acceleration and top speed. But even with the extra lbs of the viper it's amazing that it easily out handles a Z06 hands down. Look at track times, both are so close. It's obvious what the 03-06 lacks in speed it more than makes up for in handling.

Viper = Track car.

Z06 = Street car.

The 08 viper will hands down kick the Z06's ass, in every category.

I agree, bring back an All American showroom stock car class. (What nascar used to be...win on sunday sell on monday.) The viper will be near the top of the class behind the FGT and S7.

I also see quite a few red blooded American Vette owners kicking import butt at Willow. I don't think I've seen any heterosexuals on the track.

So, all of the vette owners are homosexuals? Damn, the epidemic is even worse than I thought it was!!

You know what's cool about both these cars???? They're American! I have a 2007 Z06, just got it I would love to get a Viper some day as well. I, like many other people on here, have a passion for cars and that doesn't mean that I'm going to downplay the performance a viper just because I have a Z. They both kick ass. I road in a friends 05 viper, and it was scary fast.

Cool Please...

All I can say is... Why in the heck are you guys comparing the 2008 viper to the 2007 corvette? I hope you know by now that the 2008 Zo6 is gonna have at anywhere from 600 to 650 h.p. and is going to drop another couple hundred pounds!

Don't start comparin stuff unless they are in the same group. Besides. Nothing beats a Chevy Smallblock. Nothing.

Wow, thats all I can say...

We all know that most Viper owners are single... have at least two ex wives... and have what we all like to call "short mans disease." Besides viper owners must have to be real queers to think that their cool becuase they have to have 10 cylinders and a higher compression ratio to make the same horse as a classic V8 chevy smallblock.
