I Have Seen Many Z06 (on Stock Street Tires) And They All Run In The Mid 11's Without A Problem. And I Have Yet To See Any Stock Viper Come Anywhere Near Those Times On Stock Street Tires. So My Point Is I Think That Its Going To Be Even Harder To Beat The Current Zo6 In A Drag Race, Even With The Extra H.p, Because Its Going To Be Harder To Launch The Car Due To The Extra Power So Dont Be Surprised If The 08 Viper Doesnt Put Up The #'s In The 1/4 That We Think Its Going To............now From A Roll It Maybe A Totally Diffrent Story. For Now The Zo6 Is By Far The Baddest Stock Car For The Money And Thats A Fact.

My motor is stock, I have track alignment and belanger headers running through full CATS and mufflers. We both were on dedicated track rims while I was on Toyos I think he was on Kuhmo's. He had done brake work to make the calipers survive the sessions. I have Porsche air deflectors on the front brakes and SST lines. I do not know if he had any other mods other than some similar to me safety stuff.
He was a great guy to run with we talked alot during the day.
Keeping in mind that neither the Z06 driver nor I are the caliber of driver that CAtwood and his friend are, the last time I was at Summit Point in West Virginia there was a new Z06 fully stock but running r compound rubber.
I had 3.55 gears, exhaust and intake while on sit runflats. We were pretty even, he passed me during the first session but by the afternoon when I had gotten a little more used to the track (I hadn't run the main course in over a year and even then I had only been on it 3 times) I ruined him repeatedly.
What does this tell me? It tells me that 1) I am a better driver than he is and 2) don't discount the viper. If I had been on r compound tires I would have fucking raped him (or killed myself by overestimating my abilities and flying off the track right through the gravel pit - that's why I run stock tires for now).

But when the Viper came out in 92, it became my dream car, not because the Corvette was a bad car, it was just the design of the car that really drew me to it. Nicely put, but I think the Vette being around much longer even with it's ups and downs will always be the top choice for an American sports car for no other reasons than price and bargain for the money. Sure the Viper is an awsome car with awsome looks and performance, but the majority out there are intimidated by the car itself and the price.
There are loud mouths on all these forums on both sides. It's just a little harsher from the Viper side. I personally don't care I can take from either camp.

DCX did most of the work on this Viper to not only improve HP but T R A C T I O N !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They said they wanted to get more of the power to the fucking ground! 99% of the work went into drivetrain. MORE traction, better clutch engagement and shifting quality and rearend work w/ new GKNVisco Lok speed-sensing limited slip and less mass = much quicker than current Viper. THAT is my only point.

It's pretty fucked in the head to act like you know FOR SURE what this car is gonna do, when it's not even out yet. People are making speculations, and we're talking about STRAIGHT LINE ACCELERATION. I'm pretty sure the new Viper will beat the Vette around the track, regardless....but that's NOT what the thread is about. The reason people do power:weight ratios is because that's the single biggest factor in straight line acceleration (no, not the ONLY factor...but the biggest one). The Vette weighs a lot less than the current Viper, that's why it accelerates so much harder even when they have similar horsepower. The debate is....IF the Viper doesn't lose any weight, then 580 - 600bhp will be an INTERESTING race between the two in a straight line.
Of course, ANYTHING could happen. It's possible it will lose 200lbs, but no one knows for sure. No one even knows what horsepower it has, it's not even out yet. So people are just discussing the possible outcomes of different scenarios.
With a 300lb disadvantage, a car will normally need 50 - 60rwhp more to overcome that (in general). So if the current Viper has 10 - 15 less rwhp than the Z does right now, then gains 90bhp, that will bring it up to about 55
rwhp more than the Z. So IF the Viper doesn't lose any weight, that's an interesting matchup.
No, I don't know what will happen - I made my speculation based on what I read from the press release. And I still think this thread is useless - arguing about something that will happen and put all the shit to rest.

I think the Z06 and the new viper will be a drivers race since both will be on tires that don't hook for squat in almost the entire first gear. That is the only reason the viper even comes close in 1/4 mile currently is the Z06 doesn't have enough tire to use the extra power it has to pull away until long after it gets going.
I'm willing to bet though that DC used the current Z06 as a baseline, and made SURE they could top it, even if only slightly.

The Z06 and the FGT are a lot closer than you think. I have a video that I have of me racing a forum member on here 4 consecutive times in his FGT. We raced 4x in a row from a 50-160 and it was very close each time with me being ahead EVERYTIME at the top end. If he wishes to chime in, he can. Lets just say he owns the FGT forums and knows what he is doing, so driver error is out of the question. Does that mean the Z06 is the faster car due to my experience? Probably not. On a different day, maybe the outcome would have been reversed, I don't know.
Also, the best I have seen out of a FGT is an 11.6 with dr's on. Not saying that is the best it can do, but that is the best I have seen on the internet with a video. I have beaten that in my bone stock Z06 on the stock run flats, and I have the video also. Bottom line is that I have seen, over and over again, vids of Z06's running mid-low 11's bone stock. Show me one video of a FGT doing that.
You can say all you want about the GT vs. Z06, but since you dont own either one and have never raced them against one another, your take on which one is faster is worthless with zero credibility.

I own Both a 06FGT and a 07Z. I've seen plenty of Bullshit videos of the Z06 beating a FGT in straight line at any speed I don't buy it. I like both my cars and there both Stellar Performers, but keep in mind that the Z is tracked way more then the FGT ever will be. I am not sure if the 08 Viper will be faster then the Z06 it depends on weight and traction. I personally hope it is faster, its time for Dodge to regain the crown.

This is such a common misconceived and pompous idea that is held by Viper owners, I don't get it. Corvette has been coming out with incredibly high performance Corvettes for years, before the Viper was even thought of. The most current example was the ZR-1. It was developed in 1989, and produced in 1990. At the time, it ran very similar in performance to the Ferrari Testarossa. I'm not saying the Viper had ZERO influence on the new Z06, but there are SEVERAL more high profile and expensive cars that the Z06 outperforms, over the Viper.
