600 HP * .85 (15% drive train loss) = 510 rwhp
Magazine estimated a curb weight of 3400 lbs. So, 3400 / 510 = 6.6
C6 Z06:
3132 / 455 = 6.8
Viper has a slight better power/weight, but not by much. Plus, the Z06 has a little more aggressive gear still (3.42 vs. the Vipers 3.07). I think it will be a lot closer than we all think. Can't wait to see some road tests!!

When the new Z06 came out, all of the corvette guys come on here and spill your ignorant propaganda. It was noted before that it will always be a driver's race. Now with the higher HP Viper, you are the first idiot to come on here and concede that it will be a drivers race ONLY because of the new HP increase. I have seen Z06s run in AZ and they suck. I kick their behinds in my Gen 2. Now, I am not saying anything more than that. So I will say it again, it is a driver's race regardless if it is the new more HP car or the current one.

Wining a race takes more than just horsepower. I agree that the new Viper will beat the vette, but you are making the vette seem much slower than it really is. The Z06 easily destroys the current Viper in straight line performance. Get over it.

It's pretty fucked in the head to act like you know FOR SURE what this car is gonna do, when it's not even out yet. People are making speculations, and we're talking about STRAIGHT LINE ACCELERATION. I'm pretty sure the new Viper will beat the Vette around the track, regardless....but that's NOT what the thread is about. The reason people do power:weight ratios is because that's the single biggest factor in straight line acceleration (no, not the ONLY factor...but the biggest one). The Vette weighs a lot less than the current Viper, that's why it accelerates so much harder even when they have similar horsepower. The debate is....IF the Viper doesn't lose any weight, then 580 - 600bhp will be an INTERESTING race between the two in a straight line.
Of course, ANYTHING could happen. It's possible it will lose 200lbs, but no one knows for sure. No one even knows what horsepower it has, it's not even out yet. So people are just discussing the possible outcomes of different scenarios.
With a 300lb disadvantage, a car will normally need 50 - 60rwhp more to overcome that (in general). So if the current Viper has 10 - 15 less rwhp than the Z does right now, then gains 90bhp, that will bring it up to about 55
rwhp more than the Z. So IF the Viper doesn't lose any weight, that's an interesting matchup.

On a road course I agree. I used to worry about the new Zo6. Now that I've run with them at willow.....nah....no big deal. They are faster than the older Zo6. Those used to really slow me up. The new ones save me a little brake wear.
I'm with Chuck as I think this would be a great track car. I'm also curious if Dodge had some other things planned like a special "ACR" edition in the works.
BTW...I did call Bill and am waiting for a call back.

Lets put it this way, I think someone on here mentioned it before, the SRT engineers knows their competition, the Z06 and I know for a fact, that the new Viper was built to not make it close.
I did not say that the Z06 is a bad car, it is bad ass car. One of the best cars out there, like you say it is peferrence and I like the muscle car drive. And who the hell cares if you could do this do that for this for that...

At willow springs, same day both on DOT race rubber against a Corvette Driving instructor I was 2 to 3 tenths per lap faster. I was able to drive up on his butt where he finally had to let me pass.
I haven't seen an SRT at the track in over a year. The last time I did there were a few that were tenths faster on Pilot Sports which is a requirement for Viperdays.
I do have 40mm rear calipers which help in braking some.
So if my gen 2 = or > C6Zo6 then your logic says I'll be as fast as 2008 Viper.
Now I don't think my Gen 2 will hang with the 2008 Viper and your logic is flawed, but I appreciate the compliment.

Sure Kingdick. When you buy one, you can drive to MI and we can race. We will then see what will happen. I know the Viper will be a fast car, but I a, not 100% set on it beating the Z06. It will weigh almost 300 lbs more and still have a disadvantage when it comes to gearing.
I guess only time will tell which car will be faster in a straight line. We will be quick to see what the car traps at (which indicates power) when it is out to the mags and the public.

It depends on what magazine you read. One mag stated that the Z06 weighs 3240, which makes it 200 pounds lighter than the current Viper. I am not sure which weight is correct (3140 or 3240). The fact is that the Viper is a far better platform for modifications and is built ten times better. The orange peel paint job on Z06's is horrendous. The interior is lifeless and cheap. The steering wheel blows. The wheels are cast and the Vipers are forged. The Viper is shockingly beautiful while the Z06 looks nice from some angles and like a hack job from others. The Viper has beaten the ever living piss out of it in performance for 13 years running. The Z edged it out in acceleration (not as a road racer) for one year. Lets face it, the corvette is just a bitch that climbed on top for one romp. She's back on the bottom, getting drilled as god intended her to be. Now all we have to do is tell all the Z owners to put the lipstick back on and reassume their proper roles.

I Have Seen Many Z06 (on Stock Street Tires) And They All Run In The Mid 11's Without A Problem. And I Have Yet To See Any Stock Viper Come Anywhere Near Those Times On Stock Street Tires. So My Point Is I Think That Its Going To Be Even Harder To Beat The Current Zo6 In A Drag Race, Even With The Extra H.p, Because Its Going To Be Harder To Launch The Car Due To The Extra Power So Dont Be Surprised If The 08 Viper Doesnt Put Up The #'s In The 1/4 That We Think Its Going To............now From A Roll It Maybe A Totally Diffrent Story. For Now The Zo6 Is By Far The Baddest Stock Car For The Money And Thats A Fact.
