Why is it disappointing? The 2008 Viper is not supposed to be a new generation car; it is only supposed to be an improved Gen3 with less weight and more power. If it comes in at 600hp and 100-150 pounds less, that is great.
that's true......I guess most of us are just anxious for the replacement

I think there is a good portion of the group (me included) that would have rather seen DC skip the 2007 and 2008 years in favor of a real Gen IV with a complete redesign and some serious ass hauling ability.
They said that the new engine has VVT, 20% better head flow, and bigger valves-- all of these things sound good for turbos!!! It didn't make mention of whether they would have forged pistons or not-- but the new intake appeared to be a single plenum which also bodes well for high hp forced induction engines.
? For me is, I am # 3 on Woodhouses list for an 08. Do I buy one or get an 06 with a Paxton for what could be the same price ?
Unless there is more to this car such as biger brakes, redesigned interior, less weight, etc, it may not be worth it.....
Doc, you couldn't be more right about the uncollectability of the Gen III. They are the Fox body mustang of the Viper world. In ten years they will be cheaper than Gen I and II and they are far better platforms on which to build a serious machine.

I agree. Just adding a new hood doesn't really do it for me. I was really hoping to see a more radical design.
Wait, 600HP won't kick the crap out of 505HP? If they are right, less weight + 600, shouldn't that whip the Z's ass?
The new Viper will kick the Z's ass. The only thing is, the Blue Devil will probably kick the new Viper's ass. It seems that DC is now playing catch up, like the vette has been doing ever since the launch of the Viper.
