Yeah, am about to be purchasing a viper within a few weeks. I do a lot of street racing and thinking about getting some drag radials for the rear. How well do viper rear ends hold up to aggressive launches with slicks/dr's? Also, at what power out-put do the rear ends need upgrading? From what I hear they are pretty damn strong? Thanks.
Stronger now than it was. I heard that they beefed it up a bit (don't know if it was 2005 or 2006 model year) because of some issues with spider gears blowing apart.
The stock rear end is fine until you add slicks. Something is going to break and the Vipers weak link is the rear. I know many cars running around with 650 rwhp and stock rears but above that it is like an insurance policy because shit happens.
Thanks for the imput guys. So basically with a stock motor, I could get some 18 inch rims and run drag radials and do some pretty good launches without the worry of damaging the rear?
Get the Quaife rear end , some cars had issues , the Quaife is much stronger and holds up to abuse better , also look into some half shafts. What year car are you getting?

I am hopefully getting a 06 coupe. How much is the quaife? How much are halfshafts? Are they a DIY project or should I pay someone to do it? How much power would they Quaife be able to hold? Will it withstand hard launches with slicks/drag radials?

Figure $3500 for a quaife installed. Not a DIY project I'd want to do, but you may have a well equiped garage and may be a more skilled mechanic than I am (which wouldn't be hard.)
Half shaft options include Mark Williams shafts, which are uber expensive at $2400, but I'm pretty sure there are other more reasonable options available. (I think unitrax may make them now.)
No idea how much power the Quaife will stand up to, but it certainly is stronger than the stock dif, and is also a leage ahead on a road course.
