I was driving back from a Jeep trip in Moab, Utah Thursday night and stopped in Durango, CO for some shuteye. I get up yesterday morning and there are 3 SRT convertables sitting in the parking lot. At first glance, I ignored them, but I saw the bra cover the WHOLE hood. Could it be? Hell yes!
It seems they were testing at high altitudes and had been playing in the mountains. I talked to the guys for a few, but of course, they wouldn't answer any questions except when I told him I was going to start looking for a 2006 Coupe to replace my 1998 GTS. He got a big grin on his face and said, "Wait 2 years!" I have some pics that I wil post later tonight or in the morning. I missed my chance to get the engine when he opened it because I was turned the other way. He slammed it shut when I turned around.
I did hear it run, it it sounded great! He said someone caught some great video of him running this shit out of the car in Death Valley about a month ago. From what I gathered, they are testing 3 of them and using one for the real beating. He did say that the body would stay the same expect for the hood (which looked great!), but hinted there were some other changes underneath.
Thats gotta be fun just beating the crap out of those and getting paid to do it.
John Hennessey - "I've got the coolest job in the world!" If they sell the new ones in the $100k to $115k range it would be perfect because that's about what a Viper modded to these power levels is totaled up to isn't it?

Sounds like good news. What's the deal with the extremely long exhaust pipes?
So I guess what this really means is that we will be basically getting the same car but with more power. Same meaning no big cosmetic changes except for a different hood scoop and no interior changes right?
Slight cosmetic changes.. you're going to be able to tell the difference between the 2006 and the 2008, but only if you know what to look for.. (to our wives it'll be the same ) I'm interested to see what they do for the redesign though.. I've heard from some sources it's pretty nuts.
Oh and the new motor is in the 630HP range with 8.4L a new intake maniffold covers ten individual throttle bodies and has two intakes.

Cracking up on the wife thing...so damn true. I have a feeling that Ms M might know the difference though.
I asked about the extend exhaust pipe. He said it was for an emisions clamp. It was not on all the cars and from what he said, it was just for testing. It is not going to be on the production version. He called it something, but I forgot what it was.
650hp should be easy with 8.4L and ITB intake setup. I'm happy dodge isn't just going to sit on it's ass. The viper is important "Halo" car to the brand.
