look at the price tag on an sl65 right around 185,000(then add in taxes, ect) and youre looking at a $200,000 car...but yes mb does make some amazing automobiles, they weight 4600 or so lb's so it would take a good amount of time to get their

Less time than a Viper. Look at it from the other side. Look at the stripped out racecar it takes to keep up with the luxo barges.

Of course I am just playing Beezlebub's advocate.

I want to see a Gen 2 with bolt ons or a mostly stock gen 3 against a 65. I think that would be an interesting race.

Best bang for the buck is to buy a 600 series (SL/CL), which is technically not an AMG car but has essentially the same bi-turbo V12 as the 65's (albeit detuned somewhat) for around 130k. Then send the ECU off to be tuned for 3-4k, and presto, you're at or above 65 power and performance. That's the beauty of turbos and electronically controlled wastegates--lots easier to put back what MBZ took out.

BTW, the E63's thus far have shown themselves to be a tad slower and less powerful than the 55's at the track and on the dyno. Some of this is not a huge shock given the lower torque of the n/a engine, but lots of people thought the 7 speed tranny would make up for that, and several are PO'd about AMG's latest and greatest being slower than the previous model. If this trend continues MBZ may have a '99 Ford Cobra/Mazda Miata "missing horsepower" problem, which if it happens will be made worse by the fact that MBZ clearly underrated the E55's.

My mom has an CLS55 AMG. Nice car but there is no way I would consider trading it for my Viper... or even owning one before I was 60. Reliability is pretty poor on the MB's. Below every American car company last time I checked...
It does accelerate quietly and effortlessly but feels 4000lbs in the turns. Actually, the only think I was jelious of was the brakes!

I don't know you and I could be off base but.......

I'd bet I would hand you your ass around Sebring in your Mom's car with you in your Viper.

65's have a couple upgrades beyond tuning like bigger turbos so a RENNtech'd 65 gains all that back and then some. I agree that a 600 with an ECU upgrade is a great competitor to a 65, however.

Saw that too--a no reserve ebay auction that ended in the 80's as I recall. Let's just say I'm skeptical. Prices on them have fallen like a rock, to be sure, but that's ridiculous. It may have been an incredible deal on a no reserve auction, or it may have been one of those deals where the seller or one of his proxies "won" the auction.

I am still alive!

I finally have something to post..

My friend has a s600 with the renntech upgrade 03. It is supposed to have 625 hp and 750ish of tq. Anyway, went to the track with him about 4 weeks ago and he ran a 12.45 at 4500ft elevation. Very good time for any car around here. My more or less stock 97 gts ran a best 12.49.

Bottom line, super fast car! Anyway, Ringgold delivered my 04 srt saturday and I went over there last night to show him the car. We went out and he drove it and said lets go get the benz, I think it would be a good race. So we picked it up and headed to the freeway. First race 60-140, no contest I beat him by 4-5 car lengths, he had to wait for downshift. Second race, 70-140 I started in 3rd gear it was about even. Third race, 60-150 started in 2nd gear again took him by 1.5 car lengths. Fourth race, 10-120 2-2.5 car lengths. He messed up on the first race but the second race on he was power braking and everything he could do to get the most out of his car.

The s600 is super fast but I couldn't believe that I actually beat him. I would have been happy if he would have beat me by as much as I beat him.

I know some of you benz guys are going to call bs but this car ran a 12.4 at this elevation so at sea level it would probably run a 11.7-11.8. He is going to fill up with race gas next time and we are going to line them up again.

Sorry no vids and unless we get a stationary mount I am not added any extra weight to my car (meaning a person) it is just too close.
