What to look for when buying a used viper?

Yeah guys I have finally decided that I want to buy a 2003 or newer srt10 viper. I was wondering if there was anything that I should watch out for when buying a used viper? Like wear indicators, ect. Also, a salesmen at a dealership told me awhile back that vipers have a tendency to "work themselves loose".....Im not sure what this means or if it is just complete bullshit? What are maintenance cost like.....and at what mileage should major maintenance be done? Hopefully I didnt ask to stupid of questions but I just dont want to get fucked by a dealership. Thanks.

what the fuck does "work themselves loose" mean? Bill P is probably one of the only dealers to talk to regarding vipers. buying used is a crap shoot and you do need to be careful. I would rather buy used from a private party rather than a dealer as for you get a better feeling as to how the car was driven from the owner directly.
i happen to know of a nice 03 on ebay stuck at 50,300 owned by one meticulous mother fucker

My viper is 10 years old and nothing has "worked itself loose" except the rear end from the pavement.

Get that Vipers Buyers Guide book. Great info when buying a used viper.

As much as I dislike Carfax, it did prevent me from buying an 03 which had been wrecked and sustained frame damage.

I agree, I would rather purchase from an individual instead of a dealer, unless it was someone like Bill Pemberton at Woodhouse. With that said, Zen's car is a great deal.

Yep, a buddy and I rented a car one way and drove down last Thursday to Vero Beach. Picked it up Friday morning and drove back that afternoon. We got to open it up a little bit coming back but law enforcement was all over I-95.

It's my first Viper. Coming from an M5 it is, as expected, night and day. I am very happy with it although I joke that it does sound like a UPS truck until it gets above 4k.

My wife didn't want it at first since the baby can't ride with us, but now she loves it.

It's a mostly stock Silver 04 save for a Corsa exhaust and green filters. I am already hunting 3.55 gears, wheels, and suspension.

No pix yet but I'll probably take some this weekend.

Good luck on the auction.

Does this book get into the Gen III though? I'm sure it will give some information that might transfer over to the Gen III (if it doesn't).

One other question, what company makes a lowering kit for vipers? The reason I ask is because so many people I have heard on this forum talk about lowering but I havent seen a link to a website who sells a kit for it. Thanks.

Sounds like that sales guy has something to hide about the car and wants you to think that it has worked itself loose as all Vipers do (which is bullcrap). I have a 96 GTS with tt kit and its as tight as the day I bought it. I hate sales guys who know nothing about what they are selling.

The Dodge dealer on Rt 7 in Tyson's has/had a really nice new '05 silver Mamba, and a new coupe in stock, you should give them a call, I bet it is still there, you could get it cheap.

The website for Bill P. is woodhouse.com then follow the Viper link. We have lot's of new and a few used SRT-10's. I can also help with any questions you may have about the cars or the aftermarket items you may have.

Thanks,
