Well I just got my new 2005 copperhead viper about 3 weeks ago, and after doing more research, I'm not that impressed with the power it offers compared to other cars on the road, I was looking into the venom 1000 upgrade, but even that will only do 9s in the quarter, meanwhile I have a friend with a 73 vega that gets the same, it costed him 24k total and it's street legal. What can someone suggest I do to make this an 8 second street legal car for less than what hennessey wants.

call jason heffner at heffner's performance he is upstanding guy that does TOP quality workmanship and will treat you right, i've not heard anyone say a bad word about the guy. If i were to build a monster TT motor he'd be getting my little girl's college fund.

it really depends on what your goals are. if you want to run 8's in the 1/4 then you need to consider all the safety equipment needed to do it. the best case scenario without it is that you wont be able to run at very many tracks. worse case is that you will kill yourself.
ask around, there are other guys who have come before you with the same idea of having an 8 second viper. after reality set in they added the required equipment. and even with having that, some dont want to drive them at their full potential at the track. and with wives, kids and businesses depending on them staying healthy i dont blame them.
another consideration is cost. you wont build a viper than runs 8's for less than $75k if you take into consideration not only the costs to make the power but also to upgrade everything else like driveline, rearend, suspsension, etc.
here is what i suggest you do: figure out what you really want to do with the car, ie go beat down your buddy with the bike or road race or show off at car shows, etc. then figure out your total budget for everything including power adders, wheels, tires, body kit, interior, safety stuff, etc. THEN start shopping. when you have found the source you want to do your upgrades then do them ALL thru the same shop and DONT make the big mistake of doing it cafeteria style or committee style.
do your own research and visit the shop you are going to use.
i can tell you one thing, from other tuner shops i talk to, many tuners have become selective on who they do work for. if the tuner feels that the potential customer is going to be a pain in the ass to work with or has unrealistic expectations from the tuner, then the tuner may opt to quote higher costs or just flat tell you that they are too busy to work for you. this tidbit of info may not sit well with those who think that the customer is always right no matter what. but it is a reality. and the more successful the tuner is, the busier his shop is, the more selective he can afford to be. so just be aware of this as when you are interviewing the tuner he may also be interviewing you to make sure there is a good match and equal expectations for a successful project.
ok, you want an 8 second street car , so you purchased a viper , and you even suspected it would have near the power you want ? to the point that the viper "disappointed" you ? thats idiotic ...
also what " other cars on the road" are offering so much more power than the viper ?
I was looking into the venom 1000 upgrade, 1.but even that will only do 9s in the quarter
, 2.meanwhile I have a friend with a 73 vega that gets the same, it costed him 24k total and it's street legal.

1. Just because a kit claims that you will "only" run 9's down the 1320, doesn't mean that anyone can bring that car to a 9. I have seen c6 corvettes at the local track running 15.50's and C5 Z06's go 14.30's before.
2. I am sure that your friends Vega gets great gas mileage, doesn't wake up neighbors, and can handle decent as well? Buying a Viper for a drag car is like buying a pair of Stilleto's for running shoes. Of course with money you can make anything be anything but why cut up a perfectly nice car? I'd let the big names in the business go for the records....
How many local cars in your area are running in the 9's and are driven often on the street, as well as pass emissions? Surely there is not enough to need to have all the work done just to catch up to them? I can only think of three in my area and almost all are foxbody mustangs.
Get your friend in the vega to go from a 60 roll and im sure he will run out of gear well before you do.
All I really wanted to know was, why is it that a viper, a racing machine, V10, 510 stock HP, is not able to beat a 73 vega that only had 10k in upgrades put into it? What is it that this guy did to his car that only cost him 10k that I'd have to spend 75k to get the same thing with the viper? Really I'm only mad that when I go to race sites, I can watch 10 videos with vipers in them, only 1 of them the viper wins, and that's only cause it's racing against another viper. It will get beat by neons, civics, csx, all cars that are cheap as hell, and that kinda bugs me considering when I bought the viper I assumed it had the technology to keep up with these souped up cheap cars, I assumed the 120k I paid (ya, we get raped in canada, oh well) for this car was going somewhere other than looks. I bought this car thinking it was a race car, though that is not the reason I bought it.
Basically, what did I pay for? Was it only for looks?
Overall, even if peoples answer here is no, a civic will beat you anytime, than fine, let the civic beat me, just don't think dodge should be advertising it as a race car if that's the case.
I'd never sell or trade in my copperhead, I love it too much. Driving a viper at 18 years old will make you a very happy guy if you know what I mean I don't really care about racing, just thought if I got the money why not do something crazy with it. It was worth the 120 grand whether or not it can win in a race. The best time I've had in a viper was when it was parked, not going 200mph.

did you lose all your "fast and furious" friends when you marked out and got a viper instead of a honda?
yank the v10 out and drop it in a corolla. then you can have a bigger piece of shit than your buddy with the vega however you will run 9's
Real racing requires you to turn, that is what kind of race car the viper is. Any dipshit in a souped up mustang will beat me in the 1/4 mile but ask him to hang a right at 110 mph, see what happens.
Invite the Vega out to Willow Springs, VIR, MooseFuck International Raceway or whatever you guys have in Canada and you will see why the Viper is worth the money.

There's your problem right there. You're a fucking spoiled little pussy.
Sell the Viper and get Daddy to buy you a FGT.
Oh wait, the Vega will probably still be able to outrun the FGT in a 1/4 mile race.
Buy your friend's Vega. It's just better that way.

Douche.
Spoiled? My daddy? Guess you never seen what he drives than. There are lots of jealous people, people who hate to see someone at 18 with more money than they have, looks like we have another one on this forum. My daddy drives a 98 windstar, that is his only car. I dropped out of highschool at 16 and started my own business with all the money I had in the bank from a summer job $1000, after 2 years of working, I decided to buy myself a 67 caddy, a viper and house, spoiled? Ok so I spoiled myself. Everyone can see who the douche is here, it's you poblow.
Peice of shit who automatically assumes my daddy bought me the car. Pfft, you obviously could not have done it with that mindset. Pathetic.

Since your Copperhead disappoints you and are such a savvy businessman at the ripe old age of 18, perhaps you can start www.smashmycopperhead.com.
Come back when you grow some hair on your nutsack junior.
Maybe you need a lesson in reading junior, I never said it disappoints me, I said "I'd never sell or trade in my copperhead, I love it too much. It was worth the 120 grand whether or not it can win in a race." There are much more profitable businesses than smashing a car. Come back when you pull your head out of your ass.
We know whos getting the last laugh, regardless of age.
At 18 you have been driving for all of 2 years (plus or minus - I have no idea what you backward fucks do in Canada (with exception to the Canadians I like and the wonderful strippers in Montreal)) and there is no way you have any idea how to drive your car to its full potential.
Why don't you go out and put a nice fat blower on the car, that will give you exactly what you are looking for. Make sure you don't upgrade the suspension or the brakes as they are a waste of money, and wrap that copperhead around a tree.
Before you bitch about the capabilities of a car learn to drive it.
