There are a couple Corvette freaks at were I work, and they make it a point to remind me about the slow Viper sales at least once a week...and that is due to the Z06 being more car for less money. Think there is a smidge of something to that?
The Viper looks better and with a few mods we kick ass again. Yea Yea Yea they own a ZO6....But it is still only a Corvette. There a dime a dozen in central Florida.
I can do something in the SRT that no Z06 can do, and that is put the top down in 30 seconds.
Until someone else comes out with a true convertible that can touch the viper I will be keeping my SRT. There is nothing out there that can match the Viper in bang for the buck and take the top down on a sunny day.
To answer the question... a resounding "NO" is in order. I would like to think that People buy the Viper because of what it is and what its capable of. Granted, the new Z06 probably enters the radar, but when it comes time to pull the trigger, you either want the Viper or you were fooling yourself.
Jeem, the Vette looks like shitl Not quite as bad as their old flender flared models, but pretty fucking close. I would take any Gen2-3 over the Vette, Zo6 or not.
If Dodge missed selling some balding cockmunch a Viper, and they bought another Vette, I personally am happy.
Corvette went backwards with the styling for their C6 line. And they really need to do something about that Impala interior. I can't see anyone paying upwards of 60K for a pocket rocket that looks like that...
Then again, I wouldn't pay much over 60K for an SRT-10, either, especially since so many are available at close to that now. The new coupe is nice, but a shadow of what it should have been.
I don't think they're selling well because of the impression that they're gas guzzlers, NOT TRUE! John Hennessey himself averaged 21.5 mpg in an SRT Coupe with 577 CID, that's bigger than what's usually needed as a base for a TT system. So imagine what a stocker would get with 505 CID?
I guess the Viper has lost some sales to the Z since the cars are very close to each other in performance. But, also realize that the regular C6 vette is not selling very well from what I see. They are discounting them since last year and at my local dealer they still had a couple new 2005s on the floor about a month ago.
I just went through the decision process and bought a new 06Coupe instead of ordering an 07 Z. There were a number of reasons why I chose the Viper, but the Z was the only other car I considered.
Corvettes really are pretty good cars now.. Fast.. many options for the price..
The Viper is more expensive but you are paying for the name..
I have seen 2-3 Gen 3 vipers this week out.. and while I do think the front end is similar to the vette (too similar) It is still a car that is going to get a double or triple take.. still exotic looking.. low.. wide.. Wh
