Seems everytime I look on e-bay or other places the SRT's seem to be getting lower in value. There is a 2004 with only 7K miles being sold for $57K. Why are the SRT values not keeping up with the Gen II's?
Dealers are selling new 2005's for $65K....that is $20K below MSRP...what is going on?
They are better all-around cars, except for the styling. They don't evoke emotions like the Gen II.
That being said, I feel prices will bottom out after Gen III production ceases and then hold and possibly begin to rebound during the time when no new Vipers are available.
That pretty much sums it up. The Gen III's are faster, handle better, have better braking etc, but they lack the head turning design that the Gen I and Gen II's had.
sorry to say i dont think it is a styling issue. with the gen 1 and 2 cars all cars leaving CAAP were sold units(even if the dealer put a fake name on the car to have a stock unit it had a customer name on it). the gen 3 cars were being produced to keep the factory moving, rather than have the plant shut down, and DCX had an almost year supply made and sitting in storage facilities and at the factory(of '04 and '05's). this glut of cars that eventually made it to the market place and had to be liquidated(the storage fees were really starting to add up, yes it was paid storage or leased space). There may even still be some new '04 and quite a few new '05's to be had if you look for them. the gen 3 cars were/are produced at a much higher volume than the gen 1 and 2. through the simplified build(hood, and other parts that went together easier and quiker) the production capacity was almost double that of the earlier cars. Gen 1 and 2's were made at a rate of 7-9 per day, the gen 3 can be made at a rate of 14 per day. simple economics supply and demand have taken over the pricing of these cars.
Reputation of american reliability is also an issue... if u mention the viper to a guy who just spent 120k on a new m6 then he'll say - nice car but the reliability, interior design and electronics are poor - true or not i'd still take the viper... i like the lower prices. there is also the snob factor of owning the import cars

Yeah...BMW had some great engines in the M3 that were seizing up! The new ones are fugly and have too much electronic crap. They are getting their a$$ kicked all over the world in Super Cup, F1, ALMS and Rolex. What is there to be snobby about? I would never buy one.
SRT-10's are to the Viper world what C4's are to the Corvette world.
I thought SRT-10s are to the Viper world what S2000s are to Honda world...or is it SRT-10s are to the Viper world what Anaconda is to the dead hooker world...aw, fuck it.
I think you will see low 50's this winter for decent examples. They will hit high 40's within a year after that and hold there just like the nice GEN II's have. In 6 months the SRT10 will be hands down the best bang for your buck sports car in the low 50K range. Second only to an 03 Z06 in the low 30's.
Not selling mine so the value stated here does not affect me.
However, have you taken into consideration that there were only a few months between the last GTS in 2002 MY and the first SRT-10 in 2003 MY. The MSRP's were also not that different with the ACR being the highest. I would not expect a significant difference based on the age and original cost.
But low 50's ??? That would have to be a fire sale or a really beat up car.

They are fetching high 40's at dealer auctions....
I go to every dodge factory auction in chicago and watch most of the others throughout the country on simulcast. I have yet to see an SRT under 50. The only 50g car I saw was an 03 with 20k miles. It was a Dodge test vehicle that was roached. These cars are not under 50 at auction. Even cars with disclosures that Dodge bought back under lemon law have not sold under 50.
I don't have any problem believing they will drop to low 50's. When I went looking for a Viper three months ago, only the GTS appealed to me from a "hold current value" standpoint. No doubt the SRT cars are superior in some ways, but that doesn't make the market respond.

Contrary to popular belief there are other auctions besides manheim...
Not exactly "fair", the ebay ad claims the front end has been repaired due to a "light collision".... no wonder the car is priced "under market for a no stories car or at least one not involved in an accident".
You have any sub 50K examples of cars that were not wrecked?
