We got the 577 running a few days ago. and with the start of the one lap of america race in just a week, we've been busy trying to get this car ready.
tonite, my shop mgr nick, drove the 577 srtc from houston to san antonio to make a few heat soaked passes. the car got 21.7 mpg on the drive over with the ac on.
he gets to the track and about 30 minutes later we make our first pass. michelin pilot sport tires all around. rears set at 25 psi. light burnout to clean off tires.
first pass
launch just over idle - car bogs so bad it almost dies - 11.3 et.
encouraged by the potential, nick drives straight back into the staging lanes from the track with no cool down.
2nd pass
launch at about 1500 rpm - car still bogs slightly - runs 10.88 @ 133.5 with a 1.89 60 ft.
he tried to make one more pass but found out that one of the rear tires had a leak and wasnt holding air. so that was the end of it at the track for the nite. he's now driving back to houston - a total of about 400 miles for the nite.
so far so good. the 577 is proving up to be reliable and fast. we take it to the road course this weekend for some additional pounding before shipping it up to tire rack headquarters next week for the start of the one lap.
gary j - your 10.65 et on street tires is gonna get beat by an all motor car when we get done with the one lap.
BIG BREEZE AND NICK.... .........CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WELCOME TO THE ALL MOTOR CLUB......................ITS BEEN LONELY UNTILL NOW............GARY J.....TAKE COVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IN COMING ROUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure I would be petrified in a top fuel car. As a matter of fact, you probably won't see me in any other 8 second cars either. You guys are getting way too fast for me.
I am very impressed with 217 in the mile. You misunderstood me. I am guessing that the guy that isn't impressed with 8 second quarter mile passes (or faster) in a street car would likely yawn at your mile numbers as well. I respect your accomplishments. Too bad the feeling isn't mutual.

totally misunderstood on my part. your 8-second passes were more than impressive. anyone who sees the video would agree. whats the timeline on big red? still shooting for z2z in sept?
