IMO I think the SRT is a pretty slick car. They definitely look better in person than in photographs. This weekend I had the oppurtunity to see a nice SRT10 parked right next to a GTS and even though the GTS to me is the best viper the SRT10 definitely looked pretty badass. I think the SRT10 was a success because it appeals more to the mass market which is where the money is for DC. Honestly car enthusiasts who are going to the mod the piss out of a car make up maybe 5% of the market so its important for them to make a car that everyone else likes. A lot of people complained about the heat and ride quality and all that crap with the Gen II and Dodge seemingly did a good job in accomodating all those so called issues.

If I could afford it I would definitely pick up an SRT, would I sell my GTS for it? Probably not but the SRT10 is far from a failure

I am sort of a Dodge guy, and I got my normal Dodge rag sent to me yesterday (this is right from the factory). In one of the small ads that they had, they were selling what they called "the Viper concept car" in a scale model.

Now, if that was the new Viper that could be built...you have not seen ugly until you have seen this thing! One thing for sure, it could not be confused with ANYTHING else on the road!

The best thing for dodge:

1) lower the production numbers

2) maybe tweek the design a little but not enough to make it too costly of an event

3) get the power up to 625-650 N/A by heads cams whatever is neccessary.

4) put that into production right before the Z06 blue-devil that is supercharged with 600hp comes out next year.

why because that puts the viper ahead of the corvette once again. an N/A viper will still be able to beat a FI vette. This certainly makes the car more attractive and a 625-650 hp viper will crush just about anything on the street. That is the factor that is killing the sales of the SRT too many other more viable options more cost effective Z06/ GT500 or better cars GT/Porsche 911. I would love to see the viper trounce the Z06 guys that worship that thing.

The new Z and the Ford GT took up all of the 'would be' Viper buyers away.

Z - faster.. ( better looks, I dont' think so, but it's subjective )
Ford GT - faster and much more " holy shit " looking.

Needs to look much nastier, and has to be faster..

Otherwise, I don't see how this car will survive.

And...Do they even want it to ??? Doesn't seem like it

Does that sour you on I and IIs?

I think the taillight treatment on the SRTC is awesome. Inset about 1/2" into the rear fascia and shrouded by the spoiler. Much nicer than flush and exposed......and yet, still carries on the Viper heritage.

But....... just an opinion.

It's always interesting to see what people jump all over.

Even the seam and short stripe at the roof is a non-issue. The GTS had a stupid plastic piece velcroed to the A-pillar. Was that better.

Nobody made the no-stripe-through-the-license-area a deal breaker for Is and IIs.

No. I just don't get it.
Doesn't the corvette use 4 round tailights on every generation?

Just look at this, this is fucking laughable on a 90K vehicle.

That photo is exactly why I didn't buy one. If they would have built a quality product and gave it 600 hp, I would have one sitting in my garage. But when Chevy offers a car fo 75k that measures up, I couldn't do it. I hope they come back in 08 with a rocket, I will definately reconsider.

Craig, you are so fucking spot on in this thread. I wish I could rep you 100X. GREAT commentary. At the end of the day, the Viper still looks better then the Z, but you're exactly right. It's not a different car, it's an SRT with a top.

Besting the Gen I/II's in wow factor is a pretty tough job. The bar was set pretty high in the first place.

Chad, I love the GT, but I think that the Viper is the greatest American car ever built. If the GT can go racing at Le Mans, it might move up.

Not going to disagree but I will suggest you drive a GT. It gets much better after a drive. I wasn't that thrilled until the first drive.
