3:55 gears

I'm thinking about having a set of 3:55 gears installed and I'm a little confused about the pricing..
I have read that vipers have a Dana 44 rear end and this the case, there seems to be quite a price difference between Viper parts suppliers and high performance suppliers..
Both Jeg's and Summit offer quality ( Richmond Gear and Percision gear) dana 44 gear sets for around $250 , while most Viper parts suppliers are asking between $450 and $500..What gives ?
Does Vipers have special rear ends that require special gears?

I just purchased the new 3.33 Gear and had unitrak install it in the Quaiffe . I was told about this from a tuner who claims that is a much better gear for both the street and track when running a higher hp engine. If you are interested PM me and I can send you some info. I will get my car back this Friday so I have not driven it with this gear in it to give you my opinion as to how it works in the real world.

I have installed 3:55's in quite a few cars and never had a complaint, my customers are generally really happy with that ratio for a street driven viper, most of these cars were pretty much stock save some bolt-ons. Different engine mods, where your engine makes power and the type of driving you do will ultimately decide what gear is best suited for your car-but the 3:55 is usually a good choice.

I don't about prices, but in my opinion it was my best mod (if you are not planning on big power).
