I asked this question on the retarded Viper site, they pulled it.
Seems like something is going on at Conner Ave. Maybe installing a new production line / equipment for the Firepower (or whatever it ends up being called) or the there are still too many unsold snakes at the dealers. Opinions?
There was a glut of unsold Vipers sitting at CAAP (over 400) so they closed the plant for a month. Work on the new line for the Firepower will not start 'til the end of '06 Viper production in August. The plant will be closed from the end of August until January '07 for changeover to produce the Firepower alongside the Viper.

I guess they've got a good contingency plan in place if those 400 unsold/unshipped units still haven't moved by end of summer.

Well, if they announce a new car or even just a horsepower bump at VOI in September, then they are probably fucked as are all the dealers sitting on new '04, '05 and '06 Vipers. They're having a tough time moving the gen III now and are getting desperate.
aah, i'm kidding... In all honesty Gen 3's dont look THAT bad, but i'll never like them the way I would a Gen 1 or 2. Mechanically of course Gen 3 outshine them stock wise, just needs the forged pistons

Love that statement. I really like all generations, and certainly forged pistons in the SRT would be great to see.
maybe the vca can hold a raffle every day for the next 400 days. make each car a special edition car. starting with the "March 5th, 2006" edition thru the "April, 2007" special edition. dcx and srt have really taken the icon of viper and turned it to crap. 10 yrs ago we had the excitement about going to le mans. now we are lucky if somebody with a viper wants to run it in a drift series. pretty damn sad.
sure, the new and improved viper will have more power and come out in 2007 as a 2008 model pushing close to 600 hp and probably 100k price tag. but right now, who gives a crap.
You know I really like the SRT esp since it has a top that was soo easy to use.. the old roadster is a pain to put the top on if caught in the rain. not to say that I like it better then a GTS though the body lines of the GTS are soo sweet. I was over at the Chrysler museum checking out the concept car a month ago or so man that is a nice looking car still.
