It all comes down to brand loyalty and personal preference, the whole point was to find out the acceleration difference between the two.
Like I said the the viper is hard to beat from a stop, but most of the time the runs might be from a roll and that makes a big difference on the outcome..
Craig, good point - My thinking was clouded by "Gen II GTS" thinking! It is amazing that an '03 SRT can usually be bought for less than much older GTS cars.
Go have a look at the Manheim site and look at how well SRT-10's are holding their value....... It's a joke. 03 SRT-10's car be had for mid 50's RETAIL. That was a car that was 83K NEW less than 3 years ago.
Craig, very true....but, we all know Dodge built way to many SRT's in 03 and 04, and the value has taken a significant dive due to that. I would imagine that a three year old Z06 will face the same issues. Both are great cars, but both will face the same depreciation scale.
If anything, people buying Vipers that wouldn't ordinarily be able to purchase them should only increase the following of the car. Same strategy used by manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes when building entry level cars. It is a shame that the SRT hasn't done well, but hopefully it will help the Viper long term.
We are all beating a dead horse to keep saying how bad the SRT has tanked on the used market. It only continues to hurt the value of these cars for owners of these cars. It is no different for someone to come on the boards telling their stories of buying Vipers for mid 50's, then everyone passes on the mid 60's cars in search of the crazy deals in the 50's. Ask a guy like Pemberton what he thinks of the value of a used Viper. I would imagine it sounds like the above.
Sorry for the jack Ronnie....I am just sick of reading the same old shit.

And 0lder Z06s can be had all day long in the 25K to 30K range around here.

You can't artificially set a market price by not talking about what these cars are actually worth... People pay what the car is worth, end of story. Dodge messed up bigtime going for a broader market appeal so that they could increase the potential buyer for the car. What dodge actually did was alienate their prime customers while also missing the mark completely.
Sure there were people who were so happy to have a convertible viper but in the end it didn't pan out. Need proof? Look at how many "limited special editions" SRT came out with in order to try and help sales. These cars are strugling as well, there is a white mamba on the VCA site for 65K.
People just refuse to admit that the SRT does not hold it's value as well as Vipers typically have since introduced. Does that mean it's a bad car? no. I think Dodge really should have launched a coupe alongside of the vert so that they didn't lose any buyers at all, but they chose to do a vert first and then slapped a roof on it and made a coupe.
To be honest the SRT has really grown on me but there was much more SRT should have done with the car.

Very true, and you might be referring to my mamba for 65. The limited editions are complete shit. I think a non-limited edition SRT is about as rare as a Mamba, Com., Copperhead, VCA etc... My whole point is that it is a great car, and the value has indeed gone to shit due to over producing them. I am not one that is refusing to believe this. I see the point you are making on market value, but market price is set by those who sell the car, and sure this is dictated by what people think the car is worth. Dodge whoring the cars out new killed the resale value of the cars used, and that is simple supply and demand.
My end to what is supposed to be a Z06 thread. Carry on....

And by producing a coupe the SRT total prod. numbers would have been fewer thus potentially protecting the resale.
I trust that the next gen viper will put the viper securely in the lead once again.
Good to see people out playing with their cars..........I'm buried under a few ft of snow right now
Did you get a chance to talk to the owner afterwards or did you just go your seperate ways?
We talked and exchanged phone numbers, infact he called me today and wanted to run again, since its 2 to 2, so hopefully this weekend we might square up..

Awesome bro..closer than I thought. I thought that Z would run away pretty steadily at any given mph. Would you say that driver was as competent as you are?
Do you have any dyno numbers for the SRT? It looks like you guys were dead even until you had to shift into 4th, and that is when aerodynamics takes over.

My car dynoed 448 rwhp and 472rwtq, he has never dynoed the car before.
The best I have run at the track was a 12.00@119.7 and his best if I remember right was 12.0X@124.XX. these times were run at an un-prepped track, with shitty 60's
We are supposed to run this weekend again so I will let you know how it turns out.. I know he will beat me, but I am curious to see how bad
