Throw a 10" in the footwell. You can save a lot of space if the installers take the time to create a box that conforms to the footwell area and not just a square box. Then take wire to the factory sub using the highs and mids amp and cap the sub off power wise and Hz wise so just enough sound comes out of it to compliment the newly installed stereo....
Mine's a Gen II, and I was thinking that an Alpine system would sound better than this one does. Maybe that's why I see stereo upgrade posts now and then!
The subwoofer in my viper sound like crap. Is it just my car or this is a SRT thing?
Has anyone done anything to make their subwoofer sound better?
Thanks.
The problem isn't simply the subwoofer. The stereo systems in these cars have always been an afterthought. Most Viper drivers don't really care about a good sound system, as the exhaust and engine rumble is music to their ears.
Personally, I need a kickass system in my car or I don't get the same enjoyment out of a nice long cruise. I don't much care for the loudness factor, but it must be crystal clear at high volumes, especially in a roadster or full vert.
Swap out the head unit. Throw a pair of quality amps in the trunk. Get yourself some high quality component speakers for the doors, and add a subwoofer to the passenger footwell.
It's the only way to get good sound in a Viper.
I have always recommended Focal speakers and US Amps. I run an Eclipse deck, but there are lots of great options on the market.

The factory stereo is style alpine in the SRT-10. Even the cd changer head unit or the navigation is made by alpine. You can remove the sub and put in another sub. I would use the fatory amp and choose a sub that's good and won't burn out the factory amp. Focals are pretty much the best you can put. They kick ass... I think they're made in France. Those damn Frenchmen.

I too wanted to upgrade my sound system. I installed a new head unit, an Alpine Multimedia Station, IVA-D310, has a slide out touch screen and hook ups for external components, Ipod, Sat rado receiver, nav..etc...I also installed an amp in the trunk, Alpine also, and put a sub in the footwell on the passenger side...The system sounds fantastic, however the footwell sub bothers me because of the decreased leg room for any passenger...There's not much you can do in an SRT..I think the person who suggested molding a footwell sub to the floor had a good suggestion...mine is a fiberglass box, covered with black carpet, covered by the floor mat....because my interior is black its not too noticeable, however whenever there's a passenger, its very difficult for them to have any leg room....but the sound more then makes up for that

i agree. except, seperates i would use cdt euro spec speakers(very high sound quality) or dsl. zapco competition c2k is the only amps i would use(maybe brax), the us amps quality have been going down hill. i see most viper people just putting junk in for sound system repacement. well i guess some people are not as picky when it comes to their music.
rockstar what sub are you using? i currently have a 10"L7 in my footwell presently(loud as hell), but am swapping it to either a brahma, idmax or treo for better sound quality.

Tucker can answer that better than I can. I haven't seen the setup in the new car yet, but from what I hear from others who've seen the car at ART, apparantly it's nice. I'll get to hear it in a few weeks when I pick the car up.
I currently run 2 Focal 6 1/2" subs in the factory rear holes of my ACR. I wanted to maintain the factory look and keep it easy to remove when I sell the car. SRT's and RT/10's present a bigger need for a sub in the footwell, so I'm looking forward to hearing the setup in the new car.
