driveing to a friends house and got my first speeding ticket, He says he was doing 100 trying to catch up to me, and that I was still pulling away from him. so that is what he wrote the ticket for. 100mph in a 65mph this sucks. This is my first ticket ever. I hope they let me take some sort of class so it doesnt show up on my driveing record. any lawyers with some free advice, Is it right for them to ask what race you are? I felt it was none of his business. And further more if the cop couldn't look at me and tell what race I am he shouldnt be a cop, I mean what other race has slant eyes. I almost told him that I am chinkanese a new bread but I didnt, I kept my cool. and asked him what he wrote the ticket out for. He said 100mph, and I replied oh is that all thats not to bad, But I am worried about reckless driving? what do you guys think?
Not sure where you're at, but anything 30 over in CA is automatic license suspension. Depending on county can easily earn you a couple days in bubbas arms.
And the DA can turn that into reckless if they so desire to after the fact, but generally 3 moving violations is considered reckless.
Hire an attorney and it will probably save your license, other wise plan on losing it and possible jail time.

nope, they don't have to arrest you for reckless. Like I said the DA can change the charge once it's in the system. 35 over, even being your first ticket, is fairly serious, find a traffic attorney in your area and they can tell you what to expect.

While I agree with the suggestion re retaining an attorney...apparently the violation was not construed as serious enough to deem an automatic suspension...
If that were the case, he would not have been allowed to depart the traffic stop...
Where I live...over a certain limit...your car is immediately impounded...
well I guess there goes my exhaust system, to pay for an attorney. I guess I will go to the court house and see what they are going to do to me, and if I need a lawyer then I will get one. who knows it might just be a hefty fine.
Just a word of the wise from someone whos been there, talk to an attorney first. If it cost you $4-500 it's well spent. Your fine will be in that range, chances are they can get it reduced to something normal and hopefully let you do traffic school to keep it off your record.
Unless your a glutton for punishment I wouldn't want to take the full load for 35 over.
Here's my .02....actually it's more like .10 since I've recently had several encounters. Find THE BEST traffic attorney in town and spend whatever you have to to make this thing go away. At the very least your insurance is gonna go up BIG TIME. You have to put money aside here...exhaust..etc. Your number one priority has to be making this go away. I would spend 5K if I were you to make it disappear. Remember..everythough it's your first offense...what happens if you get another? Don't know about you...but I've always learned, "when it rains...it pours". I'll have streaks for years without tickets...then all the sudden you get fucked twice in one week!!!! DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO REDUCE THE CHARGE/MAKE IT GO AWAY. As my attorney says, "it's the price of doing business." Good luck. Geez, a number of the statements people are making and on threads like these are really only applicable to your state - the laws from state to state on this vary wildly, as well as treatment county by county in each state.
Here's the primary advice (as noted above): get a good local traffic attorney! They will know the ins and outs of the local court system, as well as the laws of the state, and what deals you can get.
As for my thought on the "he had to go over 100 mph to catch you," well, that's a load of shit. If he was sitting still and you went by him at 70 mph in a 70 mph zone, he would have to drive fairly quickly to catch up to you, to be sure he got you. So his statement is meaningless and shouldn't be a reasonable basis for such a rough estimate of your rate of speed.

go to court and fight EVERY ticket you have nothing to loose, spend the money on a good atty, if you win the saving on insurance over the next few years will be well worth it.

Its no big deal, its only "over" 100 thats a big deal, I ve had 100's of tickets, dont sweat it, it might just go down as 2 points on your record though

AGAIN, every state and locality is different! I've seen some where you go to jail for 95 in a 65! Don't sling advice that might be worth less than shit!
The good thing is that this was your first time offense! (WOW - havent met a ticket virgin in a long long time - shows you the crowd I hang with!) Anyway, in most cases the courts will be lenient due to your past history. In my state, that could be fought and walk away with just a parking violation. But that's in Vegas. When I lived in Michigan that would have been a 3 pointer but with court and that record it would be either no points with fine or 1 point at worse. Utah is of course a different state but I think you will find that you won't get much on this violation due to your record. Don't you guys have attorneys that advertise for speeding/traffic representations? Go on a local car site and find out who everyone goes to there?
For you guys who live in Vegas you are all probably aware who Craig Kinney is - he's bailed me out (hate to say it) 5times - including an Aggressive Sppeding violation. So far no points (knock on wood). You need to fina an attorney that specilizes in it like a Carig Kinney!
