Well my dad bought a Red 05' SRT-10 Viper 2 months ago with 8,000 miles on it. It had a couple very small cosmetic problems and the driver seat had an actual groove from the previous owners elbow. The dealership agreed to fix all the issues for free. My dad brought the Viper down to the dealership for the work yesterday. Today we were astonished from what they told us and then what we saw. Let me show you first what they did.
Apparently one of the workers was moving it and crashed it INTO A PARKED CAR. Well my dad completely blew his lid. This happened today. I don't know how they are going to deal with this problem. What do you think should be done in this scenario for it being the car that it is? Thanks.
sounds kinda fishy...........he must have been moving it rather fast because a 3mph tap wouldn't cause that kind of damage. I guess you could give them the benefit of the doubt but it does sound like they were joy riding, if I were you I would tell the dealership to give you some sort of compensation besides just fixing the car
Someone definitely took it for a joy ride...Dealership will be held responsible and fix it for you...no need to consult an attorney unless they give you the run around about fixing it. I would also check your mileage (if you knew how many were on there when you dropped it off). I would probably demand free services for the life of ownership too.
Make sure they laser straighten the frame, the car will never be the same. Since it was a used car, they will want to use used parts on it. Pick the best body shop you can find, dont let them do it
Have to agree with the posts, that the clear issue will be diminished value, as most buyers will look up Carfax for damage ( in this case with the Dealer fixing it , it probably won't show up unless they do a claim, and they may decide not to do that ). A damaged Viper, just like any semi-exotic to exotic, will be viewed as much less desirable and will never bring the value it would in an undamaged form. Sorry to hear about this ,and I wish you the best of luck in getting the problem resolved.
Be careful. A friend of mine had his RT/10 smashed by a dealer mechanic during a test drive. The dealer would not cover the expenses period. They forced it on the owners insurance policy. My friend had to cover the deductible. It was a horror story and he unloaded the car soon after due to poor paint and general workmanship.
I say take it out of that dealership and to a renowned body shop (one known to work on exotics, etc) and then let your insurance company fight with the dealer for payment, including the deductible. Do not let them work on it as then you lose some bargaining power.

Now spill the beans - what dealer???
Huh? Ever heard of a bailment? Your friend should have fought a little harder.
I'm gonna have to agree with Schill here. If you leave your car with a dealer they are responsible for it during that time. In an event such as this, if they even hinted that I should take the fall and let my INS cover it shit would hit the fan.
Shitty situation, but just be glad it's something as common as a red srt. If that were a car of any real significance the situation would suck a whole lot more.
