OK...so I finally decided to do the Paxton....right now I have a corsa track without secondary cats...and still have the stock primary cats. Is anyone running a catless setup with the corsa and Paxton? I'm thinking that with the water meth injection, I will be able to lean the car up enough to run. I really don't want to go back to the stock exhaust....just love the sound...and the flames!!! Any advice? Thanks guys.

What the fuck are you talking about?
Lots of guys run the Paxton without cats. I would reccommend a VEC2 or AEM to handle the engine management chores. You can put on water/meth injection if you want to advance timing/increase boost and need some protection from detonation.
OK...Kenny...easy there buddy. I guess I'm just stupid then. I went to see Larry Macedo last week and discussed plans to mod the car.....I was advised to leave the cats on if running the Paxton. Not throwing Larry under the bus here...but I would consider him an authority in the subject...so I'm curious, what is your current setup and what do you recommend?? VEC2 with Paxton??? I was told that was bad too.....any detailed advice would be appreciated.

You'll have to excuse my use of the f-word, I use it prolifically, no offense intended normally. Anyway, Larry knows way more than me and I don't know his reasons for wanting the cats on, but I bet it had to do more with quieting the car down than with performance. Superchargers generally make for a louder exhaust note than an NA motor with the same exhaust. I'm not running a Paxton, but I have run SC on other cars in the past. I would talk to Larry about using an AEM on the car if your budget permits (I think the Paxton comes with a rinky dink fuel management unit and those things give me the willies) and also talk to him about the Race Logic traction control. I have heard of him installing both of these items lately with great results.
Yes and he will most likely go with AEM over the VEC. Personally I'm not a big fan of meth injection. The paxton can be modded with a bigger intercooler to cool the charge further and that is always there....no tank to run out. BTW the Paxton comes with a Split Second controller which used an additional two fuel pumps to increase fuel pressure. The split second is tunable as well with the correct software.

The concern about altered exhaust systems comes from Paxton. They worried that removing the secondary cats would lean out the A/F ratio as a result of decreased back pressure. My car has the Corsa Track system, and I removed the secondary cats the day I got the car and did the installation. I then went to the dyno and found the A/F ratio was exactly the same as it was with the stock exhaust.
I shared my results with the Paxton rep. at the KC Regional Rendezvous this past summer. I guess the bottom line is that Paxton does not have confidence that its consumers will be able to dyno tune their cars. In fact, you don't even get the CD ROM software from Split Second with the Paxton kit (you must purchase it from Split Second for $45).
Not sure what you heard about the VEC 2 with the Paxton SC, but mine works just fine.
I believe the recommendation of leaving the cats on comes with the limits to tune the base Split Second. Using a VEC2 or AEM would not require the cats to be on the car. You can do so much more with those units.
The water meth is viewed as a way to fatter up the possible lean condition if cats were removed.
It all depends on how much money you want to spend.
Sounds good Simms....why don't you help a brother out with a loan....say 0% for 2yrs.....then I can go with the TT setup. C'mon...Athena doesn't need that bimmer

Sheeeeit, I'm digging quarters out from under my seats just to buy go fast parts myself.
No cats here and straight side exhaust (Mopar race exhaust).
Note the split second software is available free at various tuner web sites.
Keeping the stock cats could be a problem. Extra flow and heat could cause overtemps and failure. I would go high flow or none at all, depending on your regions emission testing requirements.
I have SRT with a paxton, no cats and a VEC 2! By the way the VEC 2 would NOT work with my 2003 stock computer I had to buy an 04 computer!!! Kevin said the 04 computer works great. Kevin called Roe Racing and they said they had had a few problems with the 03 computers. Underground Racing finished it last week. I'm picking it up this saturday the 28th. I'll let you know how everything goes. It's all about the tuning :thumb:.
