Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

I am gonna take a stab in the dark (which may be completely wrong) and guess that anyone who has built a full on 522 motor has gone with turbos.

Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

I started out with the paxton kit and later on decided to build a 522 stroker with twin turbos. I built the motor for twins but now I thinking about using the paxton and not spending the extra money for turbos since I'm not going to drag race alot. I might make 5 to 10 passes total at the track! Just for fun!! I saw on the boards here that a couple guys make around 800RWHP to 850rwhp on pump gas. Thats great #'s, so for now I think i'll just use the paxton. So who all has paxtons with 10 to 15 lbs of boost? Who has these setups? :thumb:

Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

There is a guy who goes by ViperX on the VCA board who is in the final stages of building a bored and stroked supercharged SRT-10. I think he's getting it done at West Coast Viper.

I thought he was dumping the supercharger for turbos?

I recall some pictures of him sending the car away for the tubo installation. I do not recall any comments about stroking it though. Also the tuner was RSI as it was part of the winnings from the next to last raffle.

Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

If I remember correctly Viper D was doing the build to go twins but then decided it may not be worth it. I don't remember what his final decision was.

We build motors for turbo cars and supercharged cars. We have several different combinations available. Including ported heads, custom cams, custom pistons, stroker kits etc.
I'd be happy to go over some options with you. Check out our web site at www.PortPros.com We have a few vipers posted with both superchargers and turbo set-ups.
You can call me at 512-257-0222, advise is free.
Ask for Harold.

Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

I'm in the middle of just such a build right now. I have a paxton at up to 12-15lbs of boost with a variable blow off so you can dial in the boost. The blower will run a bigger intercooler and custom pulley. I'm not sure on the short block if we will end up with a 522 stroker or increase the bore size too. I had to cancel my order with my other short block builder as I stated in another post. The heads are being built now - ported, compete roller setup with titanium intake and stainless exhaust valves, berilium seats. We are probably still 2 months off but it should be north of 1,000 hp....

Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

Womster -

I did a similar build on a car. the paxton, unfortunately, can only flow _so_ much air. On a 488CID car, that was 15-16lb with good flowing heads. Same setup on a 510 and lost about 1lb of boost across the spectrum. 522 lost another lb.

This was with a 2.75" pulley on the paxton. car was north of 1000rwhp at the tires, for sure.

What CR are you going with? that too can make a difference. To compensate for the loss of boost, on one car we bumped back UP the CR for a paxton. That helped a LOT.

Re: PAXTON & FULL ENGINE BUILD

Right now the cr will be around 9-9.5 with zero deck height. Would like to hear more about your findings. Finally got the block squared away and visited the engine builder Friday. New plan is the motor will be bored and stroked - still need to find out the final cubes but around 530ci? I am sending a tranny off to be built...any suggestions on what I need? Was going to send to Donato and tell him to give me the work up and add lines for a cooler too.
