I got my SC installed on my car and have driven it for about a week now. It is really night and day now that the car is on boost. I have a question though, is the AEM EMS system viable for my year automobile with my modifications.
I raced a stripped and modified SRT-4 and the gentleman was kind enough to inform me that my exhaust pipes look like two small fireballs. Prompting me to decide it is now time to remove those restrictive pipes, add a new throttle body and some methanol injection.
So now, I come to my engine management decision. We have a highly respected AEM tuner in my city, and they are well known for building 1000HP supras, 850HP RX-7s, and several other high powered imports that usually dominate the shoot outs in my city.
Will the AEM system work on my 04' Viper and function amiably with my modifications? I would appreciate every one's imput, and I plan to contact the folks at "Speed Factory" come Monday for a tour of their shop and some information about the System. I just want a second opinion before I decide. Thank you for your time.
P.S. The SRT-4 was very fast, and we raced from a roll. 40mph-140 and 40mph-150 I won the first time, and the second time he got me by a little more then his nose.
His car was very well put together and I have a lot of respect for someone driving around in the winter with no ac, heater, or interior in his car. He was probably putting down around 500-550 HP in a car that weighed probably 2k pounds. Absolutely amazing and sporty little car. :thumb:
Sounds like a sweet ride man. Hopefully I'll be following shortly behind you. Going blower/turbo before Spring. From what I have been told, the AEM is the way to go. I was told at Norwalk this year by Devin Pearce that it would work fine. Devin is a good dude and really is the person you should talk to. He was on hand at the track this year to assist with a couple of the Macedo cars. (works for AEM) He's really a good dude. PM me for his number. Good luck.
PS-are you running all stock exhaust? cats? o2 sims?
I have contacted AEM multiple times to get the fuck on producing a Gen-3 P&P EMS... they dont appear to want anything to do with it. Considering how similar the two EMS's are for Gen-2 and 3 in their inputs, AEM is STUPID for not stepping up to the plate. Its not like it would be a redesign, just remap at best.
This encounter is somewhat disturbing. Have you dyno'ed your sc srt on a reliable dyno? I have a little experience with boosted 2.x liter cars and sc'ed Vipers, and this should not have happened. The only way I see it is possible is if he was running C16 and you had only a supercharger with no other mods, such that your exhaust was choking your power. It also could have happened if it was snowing and you couldn't get any traction. Any more details?

IF the srt-4 is stripped down and weighing in near 2K pounds (guestimate of course), and putting around 500hp to the wheels, it will take A LOT for a full weight car to beat it. Haven't you seen little shitty dodge colts with big turbo's on a little 4 banger running low 9's in the 150's. Its crazy. But weight is a killer.
He was on a high boost race gas map. It was no mistaking how fast he was. The turbo was a gt40 or something like that. A Huge turbo. He didn't even have a full exhaust, it was just a pipe that dumped out the sides. He had alot of tuning and parts in the car. I know its sometimes hard to admit when you have had a tough time, especially in the Viper. But he was faaast.
Any ways, I will call AEM today and see whats up. Thanks every one.
ExDriverViper,I know for a fact that the tuner you are referring to can and has tuned the AEM on Gen.III Vipers. You are in good hands with him.Give him a call and he will help you out with any questions you may have.

I just called him. He sounded generally interested in the car and I have an appointment at 9 o'clock A.M tommorow. I plan to take in my car, show it to him and bring him a list of modifications I wish performed with the tune. He dropped a very interesting sentence when I was speaking to him. "We have built 1200 HP Vipers."

I hope he isn't being toooo generous with his numbers, but if this is true, I should be in great hands. I have heard they have made some fast imports, so it will be nice to see what they can do with my "dumb-estic". lol. Thanks every one for the help here.

Dan,
You DO know that they offer AEM classes right? Try those and a little fabrication like your dry-sump offering.

Thoughts?

Jay-
I am well aware that AEM has classes for their systems... but at this point, I hardly have the time. the rest of this project does not hinge entirely on AEM, and I will not go out of my way (yet) to do their work for them. The way I see it, they design the system and they know it "like the back of their hands". They could remap the needed inputs/outputs in a day or two. It would take me a hell of a lot longer to do it, between training on the system and then fixing it.
