Stock 2006 SRT Coupe vs Stock 2006 Z06 Coming Soon...

I spoke with the owner of MTI (Motor Sport Technologies - www.motorsportech.com ) , Jayson Cohen today. We agreed to match up these 2 cars sometime next month here in Houston. We will run them from a roll, at the dragstrip (same driver at the drags and he will be a good shoe) and dyno them at the same place. Each of us will inspect the other car to make sure its stock - this should not be a problem as they will both likley be nearly brand new. And I will report the results here and Jayson will report them on the www.corvetteforum.com and www.z06vettes.com . We both agree that the Z06 is likely to win the accel tests - but by how much. We think that the Z06 tested by Motor Trend and Car and Driver is running times way beyond what a 3100 lb / 505 hp car should run. I will guess the new Z06 is more like a 11.8 @ 123 mph car. And I think the SRT Coupe will be a 12.0 @ 121 mph car.

Anyway, stay tuned for these results which we should have, including videos etc some time in October.

Latest Z06 rumor...

ALL c6Z06's are on hold in GM's production lot.
The problem is with the aluminium frame. The fittings and finish of the cars are NOT up to grade. The reason the early models are in good shape/finish (the ones you and I see at the shows) is because they were finished by hand.

The assembly line has some issues. GM might have to correct each one by hand currently built and fix the assembly line.
Remember this is the first aluminium frame, the past have been metal.

Hence, no cars delivered till late DEC/05


Looks like it could be a while until we see this match up.

I was wondering how aluminum frames with the same frame dimensions as steel would work, too. I wonder if the frames can bend or flex.

you are correct that there are several ariund but my understanding is that the ones one the road today have frames which were completely hand built and welded. these are not affected. the problem lies with the frames that were robotic welded incorrectly or insufficiently.

Z06 is fast. 11.5 at 127 in car and driver i think it was and 0-60 in 3.5, top speed tested to 188 before road ended

Maybe this is a stupid question, but wouldn't be interesting to see the results of this test, then throw a 3.42 rear end in the Viper and see what happens. Wouldnt that make the gear ratios and rearend identical in both cars???? Sounds fair to me. Predictions???

You just added a shift to 4th in the qtr = time lost = bad.

Optimum rear ratio for the coupe is approx 3.02 or 3.62

Take your pick.

This is based on the 1/4 (ET/mph)

Based on 0-60, I'd take the 3.01-3.03:1 for the SRT-10 if it existed.

In short, the stock 3:07 is a whole lot closer to optimum than 3:42
for a stock Coupe.
