Re: This hurts

I think Chevrolet is being overly optimistic about the performance #'s for the new 500 HP Z06. They are now saying it will do 11.7 @ 127 MPH. I cannot imagine it will MPH like that. 300 lbs will not add 5-7 MPH to what a 450 RWHP/500+ RWTQ headers, exhaust, no cats GTS will run in the 1/4.

I am guessing the new 500HP/475LBSFT Vette, with it's slightly longer powerband, ie 7,000 RPM redline, will be a pretty even match for the 450RWHP and 500+ RWTQ GTS. The old Z06's just got killed by that type of car no matter what the Z06 guys would like to believe in their little fantasy worlds!

GM finally stepped up to the bigger motor after all this time of getting spanked, now I think DC must up the ante with some type of factory supercharger or turbocharger system and put the Viper way ahead of the game with 650+ HP and TQ. Just my .02.

Gears on the Viper make no perceptible difference running two fairly even Vipers side by side anyway. The 3.45 pulls harder (when he has traction) and not as hard when he has to shift and after he has shifted into the next gear where the HP and TQ multiplication of the previous gear on the 3.07 is higher.

3.45's or 3.55's just make the average driver spin his tires uncontrollably anyway.

Think of all the people who say, "Oh, the Viper is so hard to drive compared to my Corvette......." ==> Imagine if they had some 18% more HP and TQ multiplication, they would really shit their pants!

I think the new Vette might be harder to drive on the street with the 3.42's although the higher rev limit should make the length of the Vette gears similar to that of the Viper.

Actually they are saying 11.5 @ 128, 0-60 3.6 I will believe it when the mags start testing it. http://www.z06vette.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76949

Re: This hurts

12 mpg around town and 20 mpg on the open roads is the good thing about the 3.07's.

I do agree with you; 3.45's from the factory would be sweet.

-The guy that drives the new z06 says: "Their instructors where awesome as well as patient and I learned a lot that will carry over to my everyday driving. I will admit…I failed the clinic on Heel/Tow Downshifting. I think with a little more practice I could get it, but I ran out of time!"
This goon cannot even heel-toe and yet he says the viper turns like a dump truck and the z06 out "breaks" it, what a fool. I have the 03 zo6 and the srt10, and I basically gave the z06 to my friend, it sits at his house and I havent driven it since I got the Viper. To hell with the new z06, I dont care if it goes 127 in the 1/4, its still a turdboiler

Re: This hurts

128? WOW, perhaps in another month it will be up to 130... 128 mph, isn't that what GenII's do with 150 shots of Nitrous?

Has anyone taken a comp coupe down the 1/4 mile? Does that weight 2800 - 3000 pounds with over 500hp and 530 torque?

I suspect the new Z06 will be a TON easier to drive than the Coupe too, but I am not sure since I never drove the GEN 3 Viper yet. Damn DC for letting their big performance edge go up in smoke. With my experience with CRAPPY service from car dealers (OMG ask me about Gary Barbera in Philadelphia (presently in NJ Superior Court)) on my beloved Viper, I truly do consider getting a new Z06 maybe in two years as a beater. Corvettes are a TON cheaper to maintain, aftermarket parts are everywhere, dealers CAN work on them BUT they are on every block in every state which is troublesome to most of us.... Good for GM on this one, maybe it will make DC get their poop together.

your right about that but.. i doubt you will be seeing the Z06 on every block in every state..
