How bad is the ACR on the road?

Hi all. I'm looking to trade in my Porsche for a Gen V ACR.

Let me quality my preferences by saying I LIKE hardcore cars. I own a Lotus Elise and the Porsche is boring me a bit, despite being their more "pure" edition. I like a car that's raw, pure, and engaging. I don't mind getting beaten up in the name of performance. I want to cackle and be amused by a car.

That said, most of my driving will be on the street, save for 3-4 casual track days per year.

My wife, however, is concerned that the car will be so uncivilized that she won't want to touch it. She parrots what all the reviews say: it's a race car for the road. It's torture. It's unlivable. The AC doesn't work. You're not a club racer. It is going to scrape on everything. Why do you want this?

My belief is that these reviewers are dramatic. They over-exaggerate a car's deficiencies and want everything to feel like a Mercedes. I specifically don't want that. I want a beast with basic amenities and road manners. The ACR has adjustable suspension also which may help a tiny bit.

She wants me to get a Jag F type SVR. I know -- that's like comparing apples to sausages -- but it's perhaps a more entertaining road car, she argues.

So am I right in assuming these reviews are exaggerating or am I wrong in under-estimating the harshness of the ACR? Is it that much different from my Gen II?

Thank you. I'm literally about to sign the paperwork one way or another by Tuesday.

Pics of wife?

Take a look at the prices of a 6 year old Jag 2 XK and a 6 year old ACR.

If it is a year round daily driver, and you are in the N.E., not the Viper. If it's a good weather car, the Viper is in the mix.

It sounds like you are leasing. If the costs are similar, and you won't be buying it at the end, throw out my resale numbers.

I'm in an upmarket neighborhood. The Viper is considered a redneck car, the Jag, refined. Your wife is choosing image. She doesn't want to admit she married a redneck. Vipers should be issued with Trump bumper stickers, like Prii with Obama stickers.

My wife has a Jag F-Type. From what you've posted, She's gonna like it way more than she will the Viper. The two are completely different animals. The Viper is raw, rough, uncomfortable, loud, and nasty. You have to want that in a car, or you won't like it. The F-Type is sporty, nimble, and more refined. It has lots of gadgets and amenities. Sounds like that's what she wants.

Since it sounds like she makes the calls in your house, pull up your panties and get her the F-Type.

Thanks guys lol. I want the ACR. But when someone keeps yapping at you that Armageddon is coming, eventually you'll wake up one day and in a sweaty panic and pull your shotgun out from under the bed. So she's half convinced me that the ACR is the wrong choice against my better judgment. But it is entirely my choice.

I do own a gen II RT/10, so this isn't like a "is a Viper a good car for me..." kind of question. It's specifically about the ACR which I've never even sat in. All the reviews are like "omg do not drive on road". If it's mostly similar to any other Viper, then I'm fine with it.

I'm trading a Porsche Boxster Spyder which I have deemed a bit too dull for my liking. Again, I own a Lotus Elise, so raw, harsh sports cars are not foreign to me.

Oh, and I live in Manhattan, so the Viper is an enormous middle finger to all the Porsche 911 and Mercedes SUV owning elitists around here. That's part of the appeal. But the F type has a more obnoxious exhaust note that they won't be expecting... hmmmm

I dont understand the mis information around the gen 4 acr. Ive owned 3 gen 4 acrs and they ride great when not lowered all the way down and adjusters are on full light settings. Granted i put motons on 2 of them just cause i love motons but the oem kws are fine for street. And if you arent tracking car then throw on invos or mich SS and car will drive like a dream on street and handle wet roads fine.
If you own a gen 2 rt10 and she will actually ride in that one the she will love the much refined gem 4 acr. If i didnt have so much damn money in my 06 coupe id sell her and buy another acr in a heart beat. Hell i prob will anyway. Ive owned 15 vipers and the ones i miss the most are my acr's

Thanks. This is really useful and was kind of my hunch. The car isn't as nearly as bad as advertised on the road. I'll take off the splitter and adjust ride height.

European luxury cars will live on, but this beast will not. Gotta get it now while I still can.

Ha. Even my Lexus is miserable in this city. The Viper will only be driven OUT of the city.

Not gonna lie, the fact that she hates it makes me love it more. And she thinks it's ugly. Bonus points.

I drove my 16 ACR-E yesterday for the first time. The ride is great! It's no Cadillac, but not bad at all. However, it could be because I just switched from doing 30,000 daily driver miles in my Lotus a Exige . Seriously though, if your roads are decent it's no big deal.
