1999 was the last year of the lumpy cam and the forged pistons. First year to offer connelly leather or ACR, 18" rims, power adjustable mirrors, nicer door handles, and the satin accents in the interior

Re: What was the last year for forged pistons?

Why did Dodge make the decision to go to Cast pistons ??

It's going to cost me an extra $4K to get forged pistons installed before my SC goes in

Several discussions on this. I'm guessing the bottom line was the biggest factor.

Jeff, why the forged? I have a 2000 rt. I am just about to place the call for a spring install. From what I understand, I can run 5 lbs safely; anything over would not be advised. Are you looking for more than 5 lbs?

Hi Michael ,
you probably can run 5-6PSI without any risk..But I plan on running 9-10 PSI of boost.

Even if I was going to only run 5 PSI of boost..I would still have forged pistons installed.
I own a 700 HP Supercharged C5 and I ended up frying the #7 Piston because i declined the offer from my tuner to install Forged pistons...And i only want to do this set up once.

Good Luck !

Hey Jeff, I held out so long for a 99 because I wanted forged pistons, but there were no black/black 99's so I got the 2000. Guess I am "piston impotent" with the cast ones

10 lbs of boost eh? :thumb:

Re: What was the last year for forged pistons?

Really? I am in Quebec City. Montreal great. I visit every couple of months to party and see the rippers. Where are you from?

As for the install I am quite torn. I am leaning towards a Heff or DLM system, which means I would haul the Viper to them with my Tundra and trailer. I have not yet discounted the Roe system either. Being in US funds a 30 000$ system is 42 000$ Canadian bucks. The average salary in Quebec is 24 000$ a year if I am not mistaken. It comes out to alot of money. I have a 80 Corvette (had it for 11 years now) that is nice. Certainly not a bomb with all 200 hp, but it has sentimental value. I often think of selling it to swap for a supercharger, but that won't happen. If I went with a Roe charger I could have it done by Chuck Tator. He is only about 8 hours from me, or Mike Adams in Ontario.

Haven't made up my mind yet. What is nice about this site is there is no "moderators" behind the scenes. You hear all kinds of comments which is great.

Can I ask what you might be going with?

Re: What was the last year for forged pistons?

Ya gotta love the Montreal Rippers ! The best in the world
The leinient laws make it a whole lot more fun than the titty bars here in California.

Can you beleive they just past a law in LA that forbids lap danceing..

I know exactly how you feel about making the decision on what Supercharger/Tuner to go with.

I've been on the phone with several alley & VCA members that have various set ups..I haven't found anybody yet that is unhappy with Roe,DLM or HEffner.

All excellent choices..I'm currently leaning towards DLM .
I'll send you a PM and we can take it offline.

Cheers

Jeff
