I just found out that my '97 GTS is leaking coolant from the timing cover gasket and i am just wondering if this is a common problem? What would be the reason for the gasket to go bad, and since i will be replacing the gasket should i also replace the water pump as well?
Common problem. No need to replace the pump unless it has gone bad for some other reason. Little bit of a PITA to replace, but def doable if you are mechanically inclined and have a decent set of tools.
Don't breal the timing cover on the re-insatllation part of the job. If the oil pump is slightly misaligned It will snap the cover. Oh by the way does anybody have one extra?
Extra timing cover? I could scare one up for $450...................
