Yesterday was our local yearly street car race. This video is from first round leaving a little soft. Second round I had turned it up a bit but had issues.
Quick version of the issues....after my testing a few weeks back and the car doing pretty well with a 5.83 @ 124.5 the only thing I needed to do (besides turn it up more) was to get the turbos spooling quicker on the two step. With a pro tree, the boost/rpm's need to come in very quick. Friday week ago I did some testing in the driveway with the tune working on spooling the turbos. Going on a transbrake especially with turbos really really builds heat in the engine bay. Even though I was letting the transmission/engine cool in between every two or three tests......after the forth test the engine died. I tried diagnosing it and never did find anything. Cooled off and was fine. Fast forward to yesterday. I had high hopes it magically cured itself but it wasn't to be. I made my first test pass, got to the return road and it died. did make it back to the pits halfway running. First round, same thing....made it to the return road. Went ahead and pulled it back with the golf cart. Third round after enough time to reasonably cool it started missing in the burnout box, then died so I called it quits. Some sensor or component, wiring etc. has started dying when heated up. The only thing I've seen so far (thanks JD) is that the coolant sensor or wiring had/is failing. We put this sensor into default but there is no telling what else it might be causing. I would be very happy if a new coolant sensor fixed it but I don't have high hopes. Cool or warm it is fine....so it may be hard to track down
I still have the video of the 5.83 but the camera is having transfer issues.

That's bookin! Hopefully you'll find that problem. Maybe some wireing is getting hot like you said and it's getting soft and rubbing somewhere grounding out. Maybe where some wires are connected together... Good Luck.
Before you try to run down wiring issues too much, you need to find a way to check to see if underhood temps are causing vapor lock. This was a big problem in RX7's when underhood temps were too high.
best way I see to try this, is remove the hood, see if problem happens.
That is a FAST run!
I don't know if this will help you very much but have you ever tried running Redline Water Wetter in your coolant? I noticed a large drop in temperatures on my STi. And I mean all around, my oil temps dropped by quite the margin too.
