You would think that in the backwoods of Kansas that owning a frigging car would be pretty cheap. Went to go pay for my renewal on my tags and got dinged for $1016.00 for the Viper alone ($560 for the Denali and $104 for my son's 1996 Pathfinder). This is for one teeny-tiny "04" sticker for one license plate (Kansas doesn't do front tags). Expires next August and I get to pay it all over again. Does anybody else pay this amount just for their plates? That is more than my insurance on the Viper. Ugh.
Oh, and I got this picture last night at our local Viper meeting. Thought you might be amused:
In the month of August I paid $728 for the ML320 and $1294 for the Viper.
Hey Cap-
I think you missed the decimal point.
I wish. That would be more in line. (Maybe even a two decimal point shift.)
I wish I hadn't seen this thread. My hands were shaking as I wrote those checks - I was so pissed. And now I am repissed. And there's not a damned thing I can do about it because if the tag expires, I am screwed even more.

Seems like it would be cheaper to let the tags expire and pay a ticket every months or two.
I just paid my viper fee with the old price and it was almost 800. I have another car that needs to be paid this month and I just got my property tax bill yesterday. Not looking foreward to next year. Arnold, pump up Sacramento!
Youse guys think that's bad (and it is), wait 'til we have to start paying off the national debt with record deficit spending predicted for at least the next 8 years.
I've never kept a car long enough to have to pay the registration fee, but I think it's $65 or so. Thanks Texas! I guess they take it from somewhere else.
I wonder if some of you guys are correct on your info for your states.
What I'm used to from VA & NC is as follows:
Insurance - amount seems to vary widely among owners (due to driving habits and location of registration), required by gov't but
