Engine Codes

I have a question regarding the engine codes. I read in a previous post that it is possible to check the engine codes by cycling the ignition from on-off-on-off-on. I tried this and got no response from my service engine light. I understand that it will flash intermittently and represent the status of the engine. Is there a problem when the light does not flash at all or did I not follow the correct procedure? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Engine Codes

I believe this only works on early year cars. I think since OBDII (98+) it doesn't work anymore.

If you head to AutoZone or Pep Boys or whatever you can pick up an OBDII code reader for $150 or so that will tell you the codes
