Thanks for your confidence Anthony. We are working hard to exceed 600 rw hp but more importantly we want to exceed your expecations. I know I am getting a second chance from you and others and I take this opportunity very seriously. Thanks to all for their comments. We hope to have his short block completed within the week and back in the car running very soon. You will know when we do.
Mike, over the years I have learned one thing about upgrades for the PCM - that you cant depend on them. I had a contractor that did PCM work at one time that was able to get 1 PCM right for every 2-3 that were wrong. Mopar PCM had some redeaming value for its ability not to freak out and set off check engine lights. But Mopar ran out of inventory on them and never re-stocked for whatever reason.
Thus my approach with all Vipers has been to work around the stock PCM. On our NA motors we will spec cam grinds to work within the limits of the stock PCM. Same thing on the Venom Twin Turbo systems - we totally work around the PCM so that it thinks that the fuel delivery system is stock. There are programs out there like Unichip, Perfect Power, Split Sec, etc. that offer some limited benefits but if you are not careful they can cause more problems than they solve. Plus the more things you add to any system the more things there are that can fail. So we try to keep our NA and TT systems as simple as we can.
What specifically are you trying to attain with a modded PCM for your car?
BTW - a performance ECM will only make some rw hp by advancing iginition timing - mostly in the mid range. There is a thread on Sean Roe's Vec where they just found this out. We discovered the same thing about 6 years ago, but felt like the methods of attaining the spark advance were not totally proven. Maybe if the Vec can get it done with no side effects then most NA Vipers could benefit from more mid range spark and thus more torque.

John I totally agree with you, and having been in the Viper scene for a long time now, I've seen tons of different approaches to solving this problem, none of which seem to work 100%. As a matter of fact, I think some folks we sell stuff to have run into this themselves, and I have heard a lot about the HMS way of "working around the stock ECM", and actually I would say the way you chose to do it is probably quite difficult thing to get right - but when you get it, it's by FAR the best solution out there. I can imagine it must be a bitch to get everything sized right, but when you do you have zero fuel/timing issues, no low/high RPM A/F quirks, no detonation, and no hassles with two PCM's both trying to do their own thing.
As for what I'm trying to do, it's not really a A/F or timing thing, but I need to be able to adjust those to achieve my goals. I know that sounds cryptic but I should be able to say more in a month or so
I'm looking for a ECM from an 01-02 GTS that I can take apart on my workbench and interface with some custom stuff. I think the factory ECM is like $500 and I was just hoping to score one cheap - I hear lots of guys go from the newer ECM's to the older (96 or 99 I think) ECM, so I was hoping someone had one they would let go for not too much coin.
Chip - it was great meeting you! Thanks so much for helping to get Anthony's Viper to Clayton's shop.
Hey Anthony - help some of these guys out and post some of those pics I took of your car!
Hopefully we will be able to post a pic of his dyno sheet in the next 2-3 weeks with something better than 600 rw hp on motor. Aside from that, his car is stunning in person. Clayton Kresge does some of the best paint work I have ever seen. Anyone needing repair or re-paint should do themselves the big favor to contact this guy. His commitment to quality paint work is second to none.
Pic looks nice , but that hood alignment is terrible. Looks good in the front between the headlights, but the rest of the edges and gap alignments are off.

For everyone's information, the car did not have the poor alignment you see in the picture above when it left our shop. If Anthony wants, he can provide the details as to why it looks the way it does now, and why it is in our shop...........................................aga in.
Anthony, Your car looks sweet. Hopefully all will work out to your satisfaction. I would like to know something more about your ride in Taigs car. Are you sure it was his, because after talking with him he is not a happy camper. His car after being delivered to him was missing about 85K worth of "upgrades" that he paid for, was in need af about 5k worth of body work and will not even hold an idle. He is at this time having the car checked and documented to see just what was even done to it.
John you just make sure to send me a good check with a real tracking number this time. Make no further contact with me other than that. I am sure Anthony will get a great car. He is in Houston after all.

I don't want to get into any details - but as you can see the car was perfect when it left Claytons shop.
Unfortunately the car sustained some hood damage while getting some motor work done at a previous shop and obviously the front facia and hood need to be re-aligned. :bawling:
The car is currently back at Clayton's shop and will hopefully be coming home this weekend. :thumb:
