I have the third exhaust runner (I believe its number 5) on the driver side glowing red... Any Ideas
Fuel burning in the tube due to an overly rich mixture or retarded ignition timing will cause it to glow. Are you sure it's only one tube? I had several glowing on each side at idle. I plugged a scan tool in and checked the short term fuel trims. They were in the -18 range on both banks meaning the PCM was trying to pull fuel out. Adjusted the injector offset in my VEC3 until they zeroed out. The glowing went away.
Since you haven't posted anything else about your car (year, mods, ECU, etc.) I'd make a wild guess that you have a bad injector causing a lean or fat mixture in that cylinder.
You could change that injector for one from a different cylinder and see if the glowing headers also follows the injector. I have a set of nearly new Gen2 stockers forsale. If interested, PM me.
Yea, the only things that could effect one single combuston chamber would have to be spark or fuel. More than likely, the spark is ok and uniform with the other cylinders, but an injector could possible be bad because it's somewhat mechanical. I would go with injector too. Any backfireing occuring?
