No, there are differences! Not sure what they all are but they ain't the same. I.E. flywheels won't match up nor do the mounting points I believe.

the only difference that i've seen is that the srt trans has no speed sensor on them(srt's read off the wheel's). they are the same bolt pattern and flywheel's are the same

I own both and they are interchangable IF you address the speed-sensor issue. Only some of the older 2003 trans didn't have the speed sensor provision. The rest did. Dodge replaces gen 2 transmissions with gen 3's all the time. Gen 3 internals are stronger than gen 2's.

Are there differences? Yes. Are they interchangable? Yes. Except the early 2003 trannies.

If you buy a complete Gen III trans to go into your Gen II, you will have to re-use your old bellhousing. They are different. The Gen III bellhousing is smaller than the Gen II.

I changed out an 00 trans to a 05. We had to have the place drilled out for the speed sensor and use the 00 bell housing. The shifter and everything else worked.

Thanks for all the reply's!

Are the internals different? Do they have the same power rating?

Which one can handle the most power?

They are all about the same. The 5th gear in the gen III trans is a solid piece, so it is a little stronger than the Gen IIs for high speed runs.
