I got 412hp/500tq on my '94 with 1.7 rollers, headers, exhaust (no cats), and VEC 1. Gen I's have some pretty horrible head and intake airflow, upgrades those and add a cam and you'll get big gains.
The Gen 1's that have dynoed on the low end have tended to be cars that are pussy footed by their owner. If you don't normally put your foot into it, make sure you do SEVERAL WOT runs on your way to the dyno (or buy a lot of pulls) to train the PCM.
The Gen1's that have dynoed on the high end have been the Arrow (warranty) rebuilds.
Back in 06 when Greg Good and myself we waiting at the airport and he had mentioned how lousey the Gen 1 heads were for the engine. A Gen 1 with stage 3, roller rocker heads, Vec 2, intake, exhaust, plugs, wires and headers would net a pretty good gain... for all bolt on that is.
378RWHP, 447RWTQ. Only mods are K&N Filters & Smooth tubes. And any gains from that might be cancelled out by my gears. I heard gears can lower the HP a bit. Now I got a good baseline. Time for mods.
Also discovered this while at the dyno. I had looked for it before but was totally looking in the wrong spot. Kinda cool I discovered I got one of the last 300 side pipes. They worth any more? lol
What heads are recommended to run or who would you suggest to port the heads? I'm planning on upgrading the headgaskets (not those crappy paper ones) so I figure some head work would be good while there off.
