I was driving the Viper yesterday, got on it a little (I don't beat my cars very hard usually) here and there, and was generally enjoying myself. I got to a stop sign by my house and decided to try and leave the stop sign with a little enthusiasm. I have drag radials now so I wasn't sure whether to expect tire spin or hook. I gave it some throttle in first gear, it hooked and immediately made a loud bang from the back of the car. I instantly lifted. It was fine afterwards, drove around to see if it was gonna make any other noises and it seems fine. What was the bang? This car is stock (for the most part) so I didn't think it had the power to hurt itself.

1997 GTS, red of course. Bought it so I wouldn't have to drive my Camaro in the rain.
Funny thing is I JUST replaced the motor mounts Friday with poly ones. I just had the tranny down for a shifter install and the trans mount looked good, but I'll check it again.
Anyone got a pic of the diff bracket thing-a-ma-job?
You need to get under the rear and look up above the diff housing... After hearing a "bang" you should be under there giving it a visual anyway. While it's off the ground, turn the wheels and listen for any clunking coming from the diff.
And how can you even think a "stock" Viper with DRs has enough power to hurt itself
.
I'll check it out soon.
No offense, I love my GTS, but it isn't exactly a rocket. My LS1 makes almost twice the power, granted its built and blown, but you get used to that and 450 HP isn't gonna feel like much to you.
