Hey, i'm new to the viper world, being a previous owner of a C5 corvette conv. I have a 99 ACR and when accelarating (especially hard) notice a strong exhaust smell......is this normal. My car has headers, rolling rockers and new cats if that makes a difference. Would appreciate any imput....thx.
It's really hard to tell if these guys responding are trying to be sarcastic or trying to help. I have an '02 GTS that I've had for about five years. I have the same 'odor' that you are talking about on hard acceleration. I bought my '02 with 6900 miles on it and noticed the smell on day one and just assumed that it was normal. I've ridden in at least ten other Gen 2's that had the same smell, but I don't think it's exhaust. Maybe heat?????

Duck down and prepare for the replies.
Serious:
Header bolts, tighten.
Check for a small exhaust leak also.
Not so serious:
Go faster. (although it would work)
Check your Air Exhauster vents (I though those were speakers)
Look for a sense of humor under the car while you're at it because it appears you lost yours...or never had one
Looks like some of these guys don't work on their own car! The Air Exhauster vents are located in the trunk on both sides of the rear of the car pull back the carpet by the amp & on the side directly across from the amp behind the carpet are 2 sets of vents they tend to fall out or stick thats why you have the 2 opens by the rear tail lights.

Yes , they have rubber flaps that can leak exhaust into the cockpit if stuck open.
I just noticed the smell in my car the other day, for the first time. As soon as I read this thread I went outside and checked those vents in the trunk. Sure enough one had fallen off.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks, your advice was right on the money. Thanks for taking the time to supply me with the schematics to show me what to look for and how to do it....chances are many mechanics wouldnt have been able to help me and most likely would have misdiagnosed the problem....thanks again
Not to hijack the thread, but is it dangerous or bad to block the vents? Mine are blocked by 2 10" subs that have been placed directly in those pockets on the sides of the trunk.
You have to be a VCA member to access that section of the forum. I will post the pix below (hopefully the poster of the pics doesn't mind? If so I will remove them).
