dynomax bullets and magnaflow x pipe

I'm trying to decide what I want to do with my exhaust on a 1997 GTS. I just bought wheels and tires so I'm not in the mood to spend money on a full exhaust. I would like to custom build one as opposed to buying a bolt on system.

I was thinking about deleting the cats and front resonators and replacing them with a single dynomax bullet muffler per side. Will these muffflers fit within the side sill? I would then like to delete the stock muffler and replace it with a Magnaflow x pipe to retain a balanced sound.

Is the stock system 2 1/4"? Does anybody have any idea if this would sound good or not. I would like to open the system up enough to hear the cam really well. I'm not too afraid of noise, but don't want it to sound bad either. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I assume it would be best to just get 3" mufflers and a 3" x pipe instead of retaining stock size. Is there any downside to running the x pipe in the rear at the original muffler location? Am I wasting my time with a crossover?
