Shifter question..

This might be up there with some dimwits post about hood speakers but, after reading another thread over at the morgue, it occured to me that what my stock shifter does may not be "normal". It turns around ,or spins, freely and you can lift it straight up...I kinda like it as the shift knob moves to the angle of my wrist and it helps going into the right side gears BUT is it supposed to do that ????

Uh no. It should never move or spin like that. Knob should stay stationary and your hand actually moves on the knob itself. Hence, 1-2 "fwd part of the knob" 2-3 "rear part of the knob " Some guys like a pistol grip type shifter too.
Should never lift straight up either.
What type of shifter do you have?

Your stock shifter is cashed.... Mine did the same thing in my 94' when I first got it a couple of years ago. (There's a rubber portion.... a vibration dampener of some sort, in the stock shifter that wears out and breaks over time). Get an aftermarket "Short Throw" shifter and a shift knob from MGW. That's what everyone else does...

What is the URL for MGW? Is there any particular model that is better then the next from them?

Another option is to PM me your address and I'll sent you another rubber isolator. Just pay shipping. Common to have them break at the most inopportune time. Ask 1TONY1 about the time his short shifter(not the rubber one, but a Hennessy modified one) broke during the V10 Nats..........................

Thanks 99RT/10 and everyone one else who replied.... I fixed the problem with rubber-steel adhesive until I decide which shifter to go with. That in turn opened a can of worms with the shifter/radio bezel, but all is well again (for now).

Another question for the future shifter replacement.....how do you get the center console over the e-brake handle ???..I'm guessing that I need to loosen the three bolts on the assy?.

Pull up the e-break as high as possible. It should come off.
