That said, I see there is the Quaife and the Truetrac option. The Truetrac is $1,000 and the Quaife is $1600, but I was told by a vendor that neither one breaks, but Quaife gives you a lifetime warranty verses a 1 year Truetrac warranty. I want to keep my stock rear ratio too and a stocker has done me well, but I am going to keep adding addl power, but since this is my driver car I will keep it below 1000 HP as I do not want to do the motor all over. Anyhow please give thoughts on rear only if you have experience and I really want to hear from the Truerac guys as there are plenty of folks that will vouch for Quaife

Thanks to Mike 99 RT/10 too for offering to loan me a rear on the public forum. Although I did immediately PM him a big thank you, this is a gesture that gives me a little more faith in mankind and my thank you is public too It is another good Alley real world experience I have seen many times of an offer of assistance.
FYI I HAVE RUN A QUAIFE IN 3 VIPERS.........MY 99 RT10 ALL MOTOR HOLDS WORLD RECORD NUMBER IN THE QUARTER MILE....WE HAVE BEAT THIS SNAKE TO DEATH WITH NO REAR END PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER.....OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS..............TAYLOR RACING HAS INSTALLED ALL THE QUIAFE REAR ENDS IN MY CARS......THE OWNERS NAMES ARE CRAIG AND MARCY TAYLOR FIRST CLASS PEOPLE WITH AN IMPECCABLE REPUTATION .........PHONE NUMBER IS 1-800-922-4327,,,,,,,,,,,DONT KNOW ABOUT TRUTRAC............

Well, for $1470 I am getting a Truetrac installed by Unitrax. I talked to Devin from Unitrax at length today and they have had ZERO failures! That prices INCLUDES shipping back to me from California to Communist a@@ New Jersey! Taylor Engineering did not respond to my email I sent over a week ago, but I called yesterday and got a written quote of $2896 for a Quaife installed. I can buy two for the price of one, so this is clearly a non brainer for me personally. I wil be the first on the Alley to run a Truetrac, and you guys that know me are aware that I put the B in BEATING my car, so let's see how this goes. From my past (VERY GOOD) experience with Unitrax, I am confident as hell. Oh yes, and a 2 day delivery time and they install a drain plug to boot if one is not already installed so Unitrax doing the Truetrac it is for me. Thanks for the input guys and this thread wil get updated as it goes back in and is used good, bad or indifferent. Gary

That Unitrax mod be interesting to see. When I had my diff apart last Fall the shop said I couldn't use a TrueTrac because that unit doesn't work with axles that are held in by C clips. Same problem for Vettes.

They are machined to take the stub axles.

What they do is cut the c clip part off the stubs the they cut a grove in the stup to except a clip that is on the inside of the diff its self. Like a CV joint clip.

I am keeping the stock gears and I did not hear anything about them being cryoed, in fact even I asked about possibly microniting them (spelling?) and Devon said it isn't worth it really expense verses expenditure (my words, not his).

If I change the rear then I definitely want to change gearing. 3.33 sounds like a good choice for me.
Keep this thread posted on your progress.
Thanks

I had to go to a new ring and pinion as they said there was too much metal to reuse them. they looked fine to me, but Devon said that once it goes through it weakens it or something like that and anyhow I had too much crap so he said to replace them. I kept my stock ratio as I love it with my SC, so anyhow they had a CRAZY 1 day turnaround time! No s*it, that is fast service and anyhow I will post when I get it in and drive it. Gary

I got the same reply form Devon, "you should get new gears". Oh well, another $200 I didn't want to spend, but rather be safe than broke again

Tru-Tracs are good for 750rwhp. I have done many on the Gen 1-2. I use the Quaife for power levels above that. There is tunable posi available now up to 1200hp that is another option.
